Biography

Vanessa Ferrari (Orzinuovi, November 10th, 1990) is an Italian artistic gymnast, the first one to win a gold medal in the Artistic Gymnastics World Championship in 2006.
For this historical victory she was awarded the Collare d’oro del CONI (CONI’s Golden Collar for sporting merit) and, in 2007, when she was 17 years old, she was appointed a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
Nicknamed as “Orzinuovi’s butterfly” and “the Cannibal”, she has been the first Italian gymnast to perform the “Tsukahara avvitato ‘Silivas’”, a double backflip with a double leap.
She took part in three different editions of the Olimpic Games (Pechino 2008, London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016) and to several editions of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championship. Since 2004 she could take part in the competition as junior. She was awarded 5 world medals and 10 European medals throughout her career.
In 2005 she won the gold medal for all the categories of artistic gymnastics in the Mediterranean Games, except for the uneven bars, for which she won a silver medal; thanks to all her victories and participations obtained in 2013, she became the Italian athlete who won the most medals in the history of this sport, since she owns eight golden medals so far. At national level she holds 22 titles (7 in the general competition) in the general championships, of which the first won in 2004, and 11 championships, won with the Brixia Brescia team in the A1 Series Championship.
