It's the International Child Year, the initiative promoted by Unicef and sees the Giffoni Festival in the frontline to safeguard the rights of children.
There is a strong collaboration with the Viennale, whose director Edwin Zbonek does not hesitate to say: "The Giffoni Festival is for children what the Vatican is for Catholics".
A delegation of students from Giffoni goes to Berlin and realises, together with their peers from Erich Hoepner Gymnasium a 45 minute film called "Figli della Strada" ("Street children").
Amidst the festival films we would like to mention films about Youth problematic issues in contemporary society like "Riddance" by Marta Meszaros and "Bloodbrothers" by Robert Mulligan with Richard Gere.
