From this annual the GFF will choose a theme that will be the topic, the thin white line for discussions amongst the jurors and between  the jurors and the artists.

The film section The sweet Northerly wind is dedicated to the huge Northern european production of films for children and youth by Bille August, Birger Larsen, Nils Malmros, Paivi Hartzell, Eva Dahr and Eva Isaksen.

The irresistible "The Elementary School" by Ian Svêrák, in competition, receives an Oscar nominee for Best foreign film, however the Oscargoes to Italy's "Mediterraneo". Svêrák will win the Oscar in 1996 with "Kolya". Iranian film "Baduk" by Majid Majidi, one of the most interesting authors of Iranian cinematography is appreciated. The winner is "Frida" by Norwegian director Berit Nesheim. She will also win the Gryphon in  '94 with "Beyond the Sky" and will receive an Oscar nominee in '98 for "The Other Side of Sunday".

The vice President of the Italian House of Commons MP Giorgio Napolitano visits the Festival.
Nobel price winner for Scientific Research RITA LEVI MONTALCINI, wins the François Truffaut Award.

At the Maison Lumière night shows, that in the meantime has moved to the more central Piazza del Poggio, participate: EMIR KUSTURICA, GIANNI AMELIO, THEO ANGELOPOULOS, MARIO MONICELLI, ALBERTO LATTUADA, CARLO LIZZANI, ANTHONY QUINN, FRANCO NERO, GIULIANO GEMMA, KABIR BEDI, TERENCE HILL, KEN MARSHALL and DALILA DI LAZZARO.

The Honorary President of the Jury is  director GIULIANO MONTALDO.
