JURIES: around 3300 jurors from 50 Countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Armenia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Honduras, Hungay, India, Ireland, Israel, Jordan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine, USA.

 

   THE COMPETITIVE SECTIONS

Elements +3 for children (3-6 years old), becomes a competitive section. The section includes animation short films from all over the world. The winning film is "Gloria meets her real owner", based on a story written by a group of children.

Elements +6 (jurors from 6 to 9). Feature films and short films tailor made for young kids and on top of them all the winners, the Dutch feature film "Fuchsia", "The Mini-Witch" and the German short film "Carlotta and the Cloud".

The winners of the Elements +10 section (10-12 year old jurors) are the Norwegian feature "Totally True Love" and the Swedish short "Weightless".

Generator +13 (13-15 ) makes British feature "Ways to Live Forever" the winner, but other films score big too such as the German titles "Wunderkinder", "Kaddish for a Friend" and the South African film "Spud". As regards to the shorts the most voted are "Bekas" (Iraq-Sweden) and the Italian "Pizzangrillo".

Generator +16 (16-17). Films revolving around discovery, experimentation and the unknown. Polish film "Suicide Room" wins followed by other titles such as "Submarine" (Jury Grand Prix), "Simple Simon", "Kings of Devil's Island". The best short film is the Finnish "Burungo".

Generator +18 (Former Troubled Gaze) welcomes students, teachers, parents, film lovers. Feature films are in the competition for the very first time in this section. Winners: the touching "Beautiful Boy" and the Italian short "The Guilt".

 

   MASTERCLASS

Great maestros at the Masterclass:
PAOLO BONOLIS (the future of TV, his carrier, his relationship with the past and with youth); LUCIANA LITTIZZETTO (Her relationship with Rai, The praise of normality, her new film helmed by Lucio Pellegrini, freedom and the lack of money in tv, her role models); MICHAEL BRANDT (His screenwriting, his relationship with producers and the difference between writers and screenwriters); MARTHA DE LAURENTIIS (the difficulty about being a producer, the Universe of Hollywood); MAURIZIO CAPONE (music, the morphing of materials musical instruments made of recycled materials); WILLWOOSH (the new web, the series, web and TV web as the space to make dreams come true and prove oneself); JOVANOTTI (His interest for comics, the discovery of books, Truffaut’s cinema, the lyrics to his songs, talent and energy, tattoos, his brother’s death, growing up and optimism); ALFREDO ANCORA (censorship in Italy, the difference between porno and erotic violence in film); ASCANIO CELESTINI (Television, internet, politics, interest for “losers”); ANDREJ KONCHALOVSKIJ (direction, the relationship between music and film, film and theatre, the difference between blockbusters and art films).

 

   NON COMPETITIVE SECTIONS

Great Premieres 2011-2012: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in 3D"; "Mr. Popper's Penguins"; "Honey 2"; "Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension"; "The Zookeeper"; "Almeno tu nell'universo"; "Prom".
Among the Special Events: the Harry Potter marathon; the "Nutcracker 3D" teaser by Konchalovskij; the sing along premiere of "Grease" at the Truffaut theatre; the teaser of the exhilarating "Box Office 3D"; a special screening of the "Kung Fu Panda 2" in 3D and the touching documentary "An Italian in Hollywood" by Tonino Pinto.

ITALIA 150, the review dedicated to films revolving around how the Unity of Italy came to be. Thanks to the collaboration with Fondazione Cineteca Nazionale, the review included: "Allosanfàn", "Red Shirts", "It's Happening Tomorrow", "Piccolo Mondo Antico", "Senso", "Noi Credevamo".

Short Links, focused on short animated movies for grown ups. Among the films viewed the German "The Man who stille Believed in the Stork" and the surreal "Holy Chicken of Life and Music".

Reload/Parental Control: films that were already distributed but missed for some reason targeting the parents who chaperone their kids to the festival. The 2011 titles included: "Miral"; "Heavenly Body"; "School is Over"; "Un giorno della vita"; "Winter's Bone"; "Un altro mondo"; "Lost Kisses"; "Diary of a Wimpy Kid"; "Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Rodrick Rules"; "In a Better World"; "The Kid with a Bike"; "Malavoglia".

 

   GUESTS

The Guest list is huge. From the US EDWARD NORTON and HILARY SWANK.    GIFFONI DANCE

For the second year Giffoni opened the door to dance and ELISABETTA TERABUST, LILIANA COSI and DOMINIC WALSH. AMEDEO AMODIO was given the task to create a choreography with a group of students for the 13 July gala alongside performances by GIUSEPPE PICONE, ANBETA TOROMANI, ALESSANDRO MACARIO, STEFANIA FIGLIOSSI and HEKTOR BUDLLA. The winners of the “Premio Link” created by “Concorso Internazionale Citta’ di Spoleto” and “Danza in Fiera”: Nicolò Noto, and Andrijasenko Timofeijs also performed with the Local young talent Carlo De Martino.

 

   KIDS IN WONDERLAND

Great theatre for children with shows by Teatro Pirata di Jesi (AN) Bu Bu Settete; The Teatro dell’Osso di Lioni (AV) staged a very amusing play for children based on the scripts which won the last DIXAN contest for schools: L’Energia; Conservatorio di Musica di Salerno with the piece Lo scoiattolo in gamba; Teatro Eidos di Benevento with Pulcinella e il Mistero del Castello; “La Girandola” by centro Anffas Onlus di Salerno with Quelli che…si emozionano; The Fratelli Ferraiolo for the Gnamfest project (program dedicated to education and healthy eating promoted by Assessorato all’Agricoltura della Regione Campania) brought their very touching Pulcinella; The Music Academy “Magnificat” from Jerusalem with Palestine and Israel students played music by Brahms and Popular Italian music.

 

   READINGS

Promoted by Einaudi with PIERDOMENICO BACCALARIO and SILVIA RONCAGLIA (music by Anna Palumbo).

 

   SALERNO MUSIC ACADEMY

Several performances by the students of the Academy at the Monastery and Orange Garden during the Festival.

 

   GIFFONI MUSIC CONCEPT

Performances by CAPONE & BUNGTBANGT, 24 GRANA, FOJA and CO’SANG, ALMAMEGRETTA, DOLCENERA, VIRGINIO and RAIZ, MADS LANGER and HOOVERPHONIC.

 

   LINKCOLORS EXHIBITION

The exhibit curated by Salvatore Colantuoni on Link showcased the work of 24 artists who ran for the “Giffoni per l’arte” prize: Luis Serrano, Gonzalo Orquín, Alexander Jakhnagiev, Ekaterina Panikanova, Karen Shah, Carlo Alberto Palumbo, Marco Chiuchiarelli, Gennaro Vallifuoco, Stefania Sabatino, Danilo Maestosi, Francesco Impellizzeri, Angelo Colagrossi, Piero Mascetti, Pietro Mancini, Paolo Consorti, Massimiliano Giara, Stefano Ianni, Alessandro Cannistrà, Guido Pecci, Fernando Zucchi, Stefania Mileto, Christian Cerbone, Ferdinando Vassallo and Mauro Maugliani, who won the last edition. The winner Marco Chiuchiarelli was voted on the Giffoni facebook page and by the jurors of the Generator+16 section è andato, whilst the GFF staff voted for Ekaterina Panikanova.

 

   ANIMATION AND WORKSHOPS

Thanks to the collaboration with our precious partners several workshops were carried out by the kids of the Juries: The creation of onjects with recyvled materials, Treasure hunt, cooking experiments etc.

 

   MYGIFFONI

Dedicated to films made by students at school and voted on our website. Two awards for each section: Audience Awards as voted on line and best GFF film as voted by the Festival staff. The winners were: Scuola Primaria I. C. Francesco d'Assisi - Torre del Greco (NA); Scuola secondaria di 1° grado I.C. "Falcone-Borsellino" – Bardolino (VR); Scuola secondaria di 2° grado Associazione produttrice Educinema - Il Labirinto Srl – Roma; Scuola Primaria Istituto Comprensivo G. TIFONI – Pontremoli (MS); Scuola secondaria di 1° grado Associazione produttrice: Parrocchia Santa Maria delle Grazie e S.S.P.G "Marino Guarano" di Melito di Napoli; Scuola secondaria di 2° grado Istituto Tecnico per il settore economico "RAFFAELE PIRIA" – Reggio Calabria.
