Synopsis
Samuel, a 12-year-old boy, lives on a small island in the middle of the sea. He plays, he goes to school, he likes to shoot with the slingshotand go hunting. He likes ground games, even if everything around him is about sea and men, women and children who try to cross the sea to get to his island. But it’s not an island like the others, it’s called Lampedusa, the most symbolic border of Europe, crossed over the last 20 years by thousands of migrants in search for freedom.

Gianfranco Rosi
Born in Asmara, Eritrea, with Italian and US nationality, after attending university in Italy, in 1985 he moved to New York and graduated from New York University Film School. After a trip to India, he produced and directed his first short feature, BOATMAN. In 2008, his first feature film, BELOW SEA LEVEL, shot in Slab City, California, won the Orizzonti awards and the Doc /It at the Venice Film Festival the same year. In 2010 he shot the feature EL SICARIO - ROOM 164, a film-interview of aninformer ex killer of Mexican drug trafficking cartels, that won the Fipresci Award at the Venice Film Festival and the Doc/It award for best documentary of the year. In 2013 he won the Golden Lion in Venice with SACRO GRA.
