Synopsis

Tuscany, late 1847. Edo and Lupo are two countrymen running away after having clumsily robbed their boss. They are chased by three Austrian mercenaries. The two countrymen are captured by a group of bandits headed by Gianloreto, and saved by the mercenaries. Then Edo and Lupo take shelter in a fortified and isolated country house, where they meet two eccentric late-enlightenments: the marquis Lucifero Ombraviva and a priest, the preceptor Flambert. At this time, Edo and Lupo are separated for an educational experiment about the human nature. Edo, “the noble savage”, is given education by Flambert, while Lupo is left alone unattended. The goal is to determine whether education can make a man more clever. Meanwhile the rebellions begin to diffuse and noblemen run away. Edo and Lupo find themselves and join up to the Mazzinian patriots.

Sinossi

Toscana, fine del 1847. Edo e Lupo, due butteri maremmani, dopo aver maldestramente rapinato il contabile della tenuta in cui lavorano, sono scoperti e costretti a fuggire. Il padrone manda al loro inseguimento tre mercenari austriaci. I due butteri, fatti prigionieri dalla banda del brigante Gianloreto, vengono salvati dai mercenari, che danno battaglia ai banditi. Edo e Lupo si rifugiano in una villa isolata e fortificata dove vivono due eccentrici tardo-illuministi, il marchese Lucifero Ombraviva e un prete, il precettore Flambert. Edo e Lupo vengono divisi per un esperimento educativo sulla natura dell'uomo. Edo, prototipo del “buon selvaggio”, sarà educato da Flambert, mentre Lupo sarà lasciato alla vita selvatica. L’obiettivo è stabilire se l’educazione può rendere l’uomo più intelligente. Intanto si diffondono i moti rivoluzionari e i nobili fuggono. Edo e Lupo si ritrovano e si uniscono a una spedizione di patrioti mazziniani.
