Marius Holst
Bon in 1965 in Oslo, he became internationally known with his first feature film CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO DIE (TI KNIVER I HJERTET, 1994), which was in Competition in Berlin 1995 and won the Blaue Engel Award. In 1998, he was one of four partners that started the production company 4 ½. His second feature film, DRAGONFLIES (ØYENSTIKKER, 2001), was a critical success and was selected for competition in the Berlin’s Panorama 2002. Marius Holst is also one of Norway’s foremost directors of commercials and has won several international awards.

Nato nel 1965 a Oslo, ha acquisito notorietà internazionale con il lungometraggio LA LUNGA ESTATE DI OTTO (CROSS MY HEART AND HOPE TO DIE / TI KNIVER I HJERTET, 1994), che è stato presentato in concorso al Festival di Berlino del 1995, dove ha vinto il premio l’Angelo Azzurro. Nel 1998 ha partecipato alla fondazione della casa di produzione 4 ½. Il suo secondo lungometraggio, DRAGONFLIES (ØYENSTIKKER, 2001), ha avuto il plauso della critica e ha partecipato alla sezione Panorama del Festival di Berlino del 2002. Holst è anche uno dei più rinomati registi di spot pubblicitari in Norvegia, e ha vinto diversi premi internazionali.

Director’s statement
“MIRUSH is the story of a boy on the run. It is a story of a boy who longs for a father he cannot remember, but of whom he has created clear images. It is also a story of turning your back on what you desire the most, in order to become yourself. The ‘father and son’ theme has always interested me. Not only the relationship itself, but in particular how an abandoned son is shaped by the absence of his father, and how he is driven by the desire to be loved and the fear of being rejected by a person he does not even know. This is one of the essential themes in the story of Mirush. As is a father’s attempt to open up his heart to a boy he has tried so hard to forget”.

“MIRUSH è la storia di un ragazzo in fuga. Narra la vicenda di un ragazzo che ha bisogno di un padre che non riesce a ricordare, ma di cui si è creato delle immagini chiare. È anche una storia che mostra come voltare le spalle a ciò che si desidera più d’ogni altra cosa, per poter diventare pienamente se stessi. Il tema ‘padre e figlio’ mi ha sempre interessato. Non solo il rapporto in sé, ma il modo in cui un figlio abbandonato può essere formato dall’assenza del padre, e il modo in cui questo figlio può essere guidato dal desiderio di essere amato e dalla paura di essere rifiutato da una persona che neanche conosce. Questo è uno dei temi centrali nella storia di Mirush. Come lo è il tentativo di un padre di aprire il proprio cuore a un ragazzo che ha cercato faticosamente di dimenticare”.
