Synopsis
Sirimal, an 11 year-old boy from a very poor family in a remote village, obtains the highest marks in the scholarship exams of the fifth year, and enters a star college in the city. As he has to mingle with his peers from rich and high class families, Sirimal encounters a lot of social and financial challenges. He gets selected to play the lead role as the king in a school stage drama, and now, his biggest challenge is finding money to make the royal costume.

Somaratne Dissanayake
Born in Sri Lanka. He obtained the degree from London University in Medical Radiography. In 1978 he migrated to Australia, and while practicing in the medical field, he did the post-graduate studies in performing arts. In 1997 he obtained a M.A. degree in Directing from Sydney University. He gave up the permanent residency and citizenship in Australia, with the medical profession, in view of making films in Sri Lanka. He wrote and directed the feature films SAROJA (2000), LITTLE ANGEL (PUNCHI SURANGANAVI, 2002), FIRE FIGHTERS (SOORIYA ARANA, 2004), BUTTERFLY WINGS (SAMANALA THATU, 2005).
Director’s statement
“Education is a basic human right of a child. Each and every child must get equal opportunities in the arena of education, despite the differences of social status and financial strengths of adults. It is the skills, courage, determination and the brain which should make the difference, not the money or the area they live”.
