Synopsis
Six-year-old Winky Wong just moved to a small seaside resort in Holland, where her parents have a Chinese restaurant, when she meets Auntie Cor and Uncle Siem who have a pony. Winky’s mother doesn’t want her to get involved with strangers, but Winky ignores her mother’s wishes. Auntie Cor and her husband teach Winky how to ride Saartje until this pony becomes too old and dies. Winky would like a horse of her own. At school, she learns about Saint Nicholas: a very old man who, on his birthday, the fifth of December, gives presents to children. Winky’s father thinks Saint Nicholas doesn’t exist but Winky decides not to bother with her father. He doesn’t know anything about Holland anyway. She decides to involve Saint Nicholas in her wish.
