LITTLE MANHATTAN

Category: Edition 2006

Synopsis

Gabe is an eleven-year old boy who lives on the Upper West Side of Manhattan with his father Adam and his mother Leslie. They have been separated for a year and a half but still reside in the same apartment. His parents have given him his own little playground extending in a nine-block radius around the building where he lives. Gabe loves hanging around the neighbourhood with his buddies. All of them think that anyone who is touched by a girl will catch cooties. Then Gabe’s life changes when he meets Rosemary, a girl whom he vaguely remembers from nursery school, at a karate class. Now she is taller than him, really gracious and very good at karate. Gabe finds his heart beating madly in her presence. At times, he breaks out in sweat and gets tongue-tied. Gabe decides that the best way to stay in close contact with her is to practice karate with her.

Director’s statement

“New York is synonymous with romance in so many ways. Me and my wife have been in every location we wrote about. That’s yet another way the film is a personal story to us. We wanted to give a window into the west side of Manhattan. As Gabe says in the film: This is New York the way I always want to remember it”.
