OPAL DREAM

Category: Edition 2006

Synopsis

Little Kellyanne lives with her family in Lightning Ridge, a small Australian town well known for its opal mines. Kellyanne has two special friends, Pobby and Dingan, but nobody can see them. Her brother Ashmol, as the entire community, thinks that they are the product of his sister’s vivid imagination. But in fact, in a place like Lightning Ridge, that’s nothing out of the ordinary. The town seems to attract plenty of oddballs and eccentrics. Kellyanne father insists on indulging his daughter – he even takes these two extra ‘members of the family’ down the opal mine. One day he unwittingly – or perhaps deliberately - ‘leaves’ them in the mine. Pobby and Dingan have gone missing! Kellyanne is sick with worry. Ashmol sends everyone out in search of her friends. But of course, nobody finds them. And so, Ashmol has no alternative but to climb down the mine shaft himself.

“The movie will be a funny uplifting and touching film about the redemption of a family and a community through two children’s belief in the unseen. Set in contemporary Australia, it is a timeless tale of the outback”.
