Arend Steenbergen

Born 1965, the Netherlands, he attended the Netherlands Film and Television Academy. Screenwriter and director, he worked mainly for television. He directed in 1993 his first short film, DE VADER VAN NAJIB, and then the TV movies MILAN EN DE ZIELEN (2004) e TWO DREAMS (2004). DON is his first feature film as a director.

Director’s statement

“OFF-SIDE has become the film that I would have loved to see, when I was eleven. At the time there was nothing remotely like it. I hope this film will become special to a lot of 10 to 14 year olds. Because it’s in their world, with kids from their street, and it could be in their school yard. It’s a film full of pushing and shoving, football, and a kiss. It’s also a story about courage and honesty, and fighting for things that are worth fighting for”.
