REIN RAAMAT
Rein Raamat (Türi, 20 March 1931) is an Estonian animation director and screenwriter.
He was the first Estonian animation director to have succeeded internationally, and along with Elbert Tuganov, he is considered the father of Estonian animation.
Raamat was born in Türi. He graduated from the Estonian Institute of Art in 1957 as a painter and between 1957 and 1971 he worked as a director and designer in feature films set in Tallinn. In 1971 he founded his animation studio, Joonisfilm, a division of the Tallinnfilm studio, beginning to distribute his own films. Since 1989 he has been the artistic director of Studio B (founded by him), in which he employed about 120 employees.
His works include Põrgu, released in 1983 and based on drawings by the Estonian painter of the 1930s Eduard Wiiralt.
Since the early 90s he has collaborated on several documentaries set in Estonia.
In addition to numerous animated short films directed since the early '70s, he has made more than twenty documentaries.
