GUNTER FRIEDRICH

Friedrich was born in Zwickau in 1938, the son of a student council. He finished his high school diploma and began in 1956 a study at the engineering school for film technology Potsdam Babelsberg, where he was educated until 1959 in the field of "receptionist". He then began to work as an assistant director at the German television station and completed from 1962 to 1965 an acting education in the junior studio of the DFF. He completed the stage for drama art "Ernst Busch" Berlin with the stage maturity. From 1965 he worked for five years both as an actor and as a director at various theater stages in the GDR.
It was not until 1970 that he moved to DFF film directing. His DEFA children's films Geigenkasten (1985), Hasenherz (1987) and Die Sprungdeckeluhr (1991), which remained his only feature films, became known. Friedrich is a member of the German Film Academy and the Federal Association Director. Gunter Friedrich is married to actress Renate Heymer and lives in Berlin. Together they have two sons.
