GUNTER FRIEDRICH
Friedrich was born in Zwickau in 1938, the son of a student council. He finished his high school diploma and began in 1956 a study at the engineering school for film technology Potsdam Babelsberg, where he was educated until 1959 in the field of "receptionist". He then began to work as an assistant director at the German television station and completed from 1962 to 1965 an acting education in the junior studio of the DFF. He completed the stage for drama art "Ernst Busch" Berlin with the stage maturity. From 1965 he worked for five years both as an actor and as a director at various theater stages in the GDR.
It was not until 1970 that he moved to DFF film directing. Until 1984 he first made various children's films for television, including 1974 Why can not I be good? and 1976 If someone promised something. His DEFA children's films Geigenkasten (1985), Hasenherz (1987) and Die Sprungdeckeluhr (1991), which remained his only feature films, became known. From 1985 to 1991 Friedrich was active as a director in the field of "television drama" in the television of the GDR and turned, among other things, various episodes of the series police call 110 and the prosecutor has the floor. In the 1970s and 1980s, he was occasionally seen as an actor, such as the children's film Trini and the fairy tale film Froschkönig.
Friedrich is a member of the German Film Academy and the Federal Association Director. Gunter Friedrich is married to actress Renate Heymer and lives in Berlin. Together they have two sons.
