SOPHIE

Category: Edition 1986

Synopsis
Sophie is a cinematic sketch of a sixteen-year-old girl. In the film we see a number of events during a day in her life. Sophie lives with her mother and brother in the house. She abhor the life of her mother and she hardly has contact with her brother. Her work, in a cafeteria of a department store, is also not very pleasant. That is why she withdraws into her own safe world. By constantly wearing a walkman with headphones, she isolates herself from the people around her. During the filmed scenes we see the same and we hear the same as Sophie sees and hears. The live-action scenes have been filmed from the perspective of Sophie, and we hear, like her, the music of her walkman. Sophie gives her views on the outside world in musical texts. The live action scenes are interspersed with stills, in which we see her as the people around her see her (as a picture), and we hear the outside world and the reactions of the people to Sophie. She takes off her headphones at the end of the film.
