MANFREDO MANFREDI

Manfredo Manfredi (Palermo, 1934) is an Italian director, set designer, painter and animator.
Trained in Rome, where he attended the Faculty of Architecture and graduated in scenography at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1958, he began his work as a stage designer in 1960, as an aid to Piero Filippone in the film Antinea, the lover of the buried city. He realizes the drawings for the initials of Carosello and the scenographies of documentaries and TV shows. In 1963 he experimented with animation and obtained the first awards including the Nastro d'argento for the best short film 1968 for Su sambene non est abba. From 1969 he devoted himself to directing, with numerous films and short films. In 1975 with Uva salamanna he won the boys film prize at the Moscow International Film Festival in 1975. In 1977 he received the Oscar nomination for the best animated short film with Dedalo. In the following years with Cineteam he makes institutional films, TV specials, commercials and many TV themes. As a painter he develops his research in the field of abstract expressionism with personal throughout Italy.
