Synopsis
An aspiring Jewish actor moves out of his parents' Brooklyn apartment to seek his fortune in the bohemian life of Greenwich Village in 1953. He struggles to come to terms with his feelings about his mother's overbearing nature, while also trying to maintain his relationship with his girlfriend.

Paul Mazursky, born Irwin Mazursky (New York, April 25, 1930), is a five-time Academy Award-winning director, screenwriter, actor and film producer.
Mazursky was born in Brooklyn (New York) on April 25, 1930 from a Jewish family of remote Ukrainian origins on the paternal side. His father, David Mazursky, was a laborer and his mother, Jean Gerson, a pianist who played for ballet classes.
