BERNARD LONGPRÉ
Bernard Longpré (born 1937 in Montreal) is a Canadian animator, film director and painter.
Longpré studied at the Institut des arts graphiques; his teachers included Albert Dumouchel. He was recruited to the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) in 1957 by René Jodoin, where he first worked as an animator on documentaries and instructional films for the Ministry of Defense. His early work as an animator includes An Introduction to Jet Engines (1959) and Bandwith (1960) by René Jodoin. His directorial debut was Longpré 1964 with the animated short-educational film Les restituteurs à bille de l 'Antac. In his following short film Test 0558 he experimented with the possibilities of computer animation.
This was followed by numerous other animated films of various animation techniques, in which Longpré directed, including the Pixilation realized film Monsieur Pointu, who was nominated in 1976 for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film.
