Synopsis
The Arctic, the most pristine and least known ocean in the world, is threatened every day by chemical pollutants, plastics and climate changes, with catastrophic impacts on its delicate balance: an alarming phenomenon, told in ‘Arctic Peril’. The documentary, produced by Sky News, tells the battle of Lewis Pugh, an English swimmer and an ocean defender for the United Nations, which over the years has challenged the waters in the most extreme conditions. The man swam for a kilometer in the Arctic Ocean, at prohibitive temperatures, without a wetsuit, risking his own life, to raise awareness on the topic of the oceans’ warming and the melting of the ice cap. The documentary follows the preparation of this venture and Pugh’s journey between Canada, Norway and the North Pole, where, meeting experts and scholars, explains why global warming is having irreversible consequences not only on the North Pole but on the entire planet. The documentary is part of the ‘Sky ocean rescue’ Campaign.
