JOURNEY OF HOPE

Category: Edition 1992

Synopsis
The film tells the story of an Alevi family with seven children, who tries to illegally enter Switzerland. The parents, Haydar and Meryem, set off with their seven-year-old son Mehmet Ali, trying to reach a land that they know only from postcards; the idea is to start to reach the Swiss soil, and then let the other six children arrive later.
In Italy the three are helped by the truck driver Ramser, to whom they pay 300 marks in exchange for a ride to the border, where, however, due to the lack of entry visa, they are denied access. At the Milan station the three come in contact with the passers, who show them the way to enter Switzerland from the mountains. But the journey turns out to be fatal: in a snowstorm on the Spluga pass the son Mehmet Ali, exhausted by fatigue, dies in his father's arms.
