JURIES: Approximately 3300 jurors from 40 countries: Afghanistan, Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Belarus, Canada, China, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lithuania, Macedonia, Malta, Mexico, Moldova, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tunisia, USA, Venezuela.

 

   COMPETITIVE SECTIONS

Elements +3, dedicated to children from 3 to 6, becomes competitive. The programme includes short animated movies from all over the world. The winner is the Singapore short  "Spycat and the Paper Chase". Whilst the Giotto Bè-Bè award went to the Italian production "The Boy and the Moon", by young filmmaker Rino Alaimo.

Elements +6 (jurors from 6 to 9). Shorts and featurefilms capable of telling us fantasy stories alongiside stories revolving around the children’s day to day life. The most voted films were the German "The Famous Five" (based on the series of novels which had already inspired a TV show in the 70s aired by RAI) and the Dutch short "Mina Moes".

For the Elements +10 section for jurors from 10 to 12 it was an all German victory for "Victor and the Secret of Crocodile Mansion" and the short "Kidnapped". Good positionement for the Italian "Il Sole Dentro", the first Italian movie to play in Giffoni after several years.

Generator +13 (13-15) The Canadian "Frissons des Collines" was the most voted by the jurors. After years of extremely dramatic films winning The award went to a film that was able to mix tears and laughter together. Good showing also for English flick "Now is Good" starring a delightful Dakota Fanning, and the Dutch "Cool Kids Don't Cry", starring Hanna Obbeek and Nils Verkooijen who are real household names in the Netherlands. In the shorts category the most voted films were "Nani" (USA) and "Tiger Boy" (Italy). Special awards to "Milo" (Premio CGS), "The Foster Boy" (“La Bottega Digitale” Award), "Lucky" (Arca Cinemagiovani).

Generator +16 (16-17). Films with luminous shadows and strong chiaroscuro, with characters in a difficult world to walk across and intense. The winner is "A Bottle in the Gaza Sea" (also winner of the Arca Cinemagiovani), a France-Israel-Canada, co-production revolving around two youngsters, a girl from Israel and a guy from Gaza who exchange letters. Great reception also for the English "Broken", the touching "170 Hz" (Aluminium Gryphon by CIAL) and and the US production "Norman" (Crystal Gryphon by Banca della Campania). The most appreciated shorts were "Punched" (Austria) and "Luminaris" (Argentina).

Generator +18 is made up of jurors of different ages, students, teachers, parents and film lovers. Strong and dramatic films where the world of adults often clashes with the world of children. The main prize goes to the Korean "Barbie" about a little girl who is sold and destined to die for the survival of her family. There was a tie for shorts: The Norwegian "Tuba Atlantic" and the Italian "Shorts".

 

   MyGIFFONI

This section is dedicated to the audiovisual productions made by School students and cultural organizations. "La Ricerca", with teachers Maria Lanotte and Maria Daloiso, of year 4°, sez. E-F, at the “Papa Giovanni XXIII” di Margherita di Savoia Elementary school wins the main prize.

 

   MASTERCLASS

MASTERCLASS is for a small  group of lucky students whom have met DANIELE VICARI, LUCA LUCINI, FABRIZIO GIFUNI, PATTI SMITH, IVAN COTRONEO, TATTI SANGUINETI, FRANCO BATTIATO, ROBERTO CITRAN, MARCO GUADAGNO.
The students also had the opportunity to see the doc "Body Shopping (Appena ho 18 anni mi rifaccio)" on the obsession to change one’s appearance and plastic surgery.

 

   NON COMPETITIVE SECTIONS

PREMIERES
"Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" (Universal); "Violetta" (tv series - Walt Disney Pictures); "A Turtle's Tale 2: Sammy's Escape from Paradise" (teaser - Eagle Pictures); "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" (teaser – M2); "Step Up Revolution" (teaser – M2); "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" (Fox); "Young Europe" (ANIA);  "A Monster in Paris" (AB Production); "LOL" (Moviemax); "Ice Age: Continental Drift" (Fox); "Struck by Lightning"; "All you can dream" (Valerio Zanoli). Special Event: "Brave".

TRUFFAUT TRIBUTE
After 20 years from Truffaut’s visit to Giffoni and his letter in which he complimented that of all festivals Giffoni was the most necessari we paid tribute with a review of three of his most significant films: "The 400 Blows", "The Wild Child", "Small Change". Also showing the doc Le spectacle intérieur by Paolo Giaccio, with the introduction of Tonino Pinto.

TIM BURTON MARATHON
Six films from the fantasy dark genius of Tim Burton. The marathon included: "Dark Shadows", "Edward Scissorhands", "Ed Wood", "Sleepy Hollow", "Big Fish", "Corpse Bride".

SHORT IS HAPPY
Animated short sto tell about happiness, from the “hot” "Tram", to the CSC, animation department of Torino, "La Danza del Piccolo Ragno", to the surreal "Chambre 69".

RELOAD/PARENTAL CONTROL
A huge number of films for mum and dad too. "The Art of Getting By", "We Bought a Zoo", "We Need to Talk About Kevin", "Diaz - Don't Clean Up This Blood", "Sarah's Key", "Kryptonite!"  were some of the films screened in the Parental Control section dedicated to parents about families.

 

   GUESTS

Huge stars from the USA JESSICA ALBA, NICOLAS CAGE and Glee’s DIANNA AGRON. Moreover, French actor JEAN RENO and Italian stars MARA VENIER, LEONARDO PIERACCIONI, ALE e FRANZ, LUCA MINIERO, LUCA WARD, GIORGIA WURTH, CHIARA FRANCINI, MARTINA COLOMBARI, FRANCESCA INAUDI, MARCO GIALLINI, SERGIO ASSISI, GUGLIELMO SCILLA, ANITA CAPRIOLI, CLAUDIO GIOÈ, ARISA, ENZO DE CARO, LUCIANO CANNITO, ROSSELLA BRESCIA, SONIA BERGAMASCO, FRANCESCO PANNOFINO, SIMONA IZZO.

 

   NEAPOLIS @ GIFFONI

Music played an important part in the 2012 GFF thanks to the partenrship with Neapolis, the most important rock festival in the South of Italy which decided to move to Giffoni in year 16.
All performances were held at the "G. Troisi" stadium in Giffoni.
Among the Headliners of Neapolis@Giffoni rock legend, PATTI SMITH (July 19), DINOSAUR JR. (July 18), who previewed their la test album “I Bet On Sky".
Also performances by I BRADIPOS IV + Dj Set CINEMATICO, PINO DANIELE, GIARDINI DI MIRÒ, TRE ALLEGRI RAGAZZI MORTI, EPO, KATAP, ABOUT WAYNE, CAPAREZZA, CAPONE & BUNGTBANGT, TEATRO DEGLI ORRORI, AZARI & III, BLONDE REDHEAD, JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN, IS TROPICAL, I USED TO BE A SPARROW, CLUB DOGO, A TOYS ORCHESTRA, WHEN THE CLOUDS, YES DADDY YES and NINA ZILLI.

 

   GIFFONI ENTERTAINMENT

Street artists took over the town with incredible performances in Giffoni 2012: Unnico, Ciccio Clown, Famiglia Mirabella, Gio Ferraioli, Piricchio, Piccolo Nuovo Teatro Bastia Umbra, Osadia, Milo e Olivia, Compagnia Melarancio.
Sophisticated shows at the Giardino degli Aranci.

 

   ART EXHIBITIONS

Two exhibitions were carried out at the GFF thanks to its prestigious partners.
HAPPYART curated by Salvatore Colantuoni with 29 artists. The Hospiria prize was won by Massimiliano Mascolini for Narciso/Happiness and by Pietro Mancini for his opus The great heart of happiness.
Le Ragioni del Sentimento – Musica Arte Poesia in una confluenza di versi, forme e suoni was the other exhibition in collaboration with the Settore Musei e Biblioteche della Provincia di Salerno, created by Claudio Gubitosi and Barbara Cussino ( manager of Musei Provinciali) based on a project by Barbara Cussino, Vittoria Bonani and Floriana Gigantino.

 

   ANIMATION AND WORKSHOPS

Thanks to the collaboration with our precious partners we carried out various workshops for kids of all ages: from the creation of objects with recycled materials to the treasure hunt to scientific experiments in the kitchen.
