ALEKSANDR ZGURIDI

Aleksandr Michajłowicz Zguridi (born on February 23, 1904 in Saratov) - a Soviet film director and screenwriter, one of the precursors of popular science film in the USSR. Three times winner of the Stalinist Award (1941, 1946, 1950). People's Artist of the RSFSR (1950), People's Artist of the USSR (1969).
In 1930 he contacted the Institute of Microbiology and Epidemiology in Saratov, where in 1931 he made his first Strongilida film - about parasites attacking horses. In 1932, he started working at the Moscow Educational Film Studio. In 1938, he created the first Russian full-length educational film In the Deep Sea. The Moscow label also produced other popular science films that won prizes at international festivals, including In the sands of central Asia (1943, award in Venice 1946), Forest Tale (1950, award in Karlovy Vary), Ocean ice (1953, awards in Edinburgh, Locarno, London), In the waters of the Pacific (1957, awards in Moscow and Rome ), Adventures in the jungle (1959, award in Minsk 1960), Dorogoj priedkow (1962, prize in Venice), In the land of strange animals (1965, Silver Lion in Venice).
He also made feature films, including White Fang based on the novel by Jack London (1946), Ogień w kniei (1954), Elephant from the Indian Jungle (1971), Bystronogi (1981), Favorite Fellow (1985).
