Alan Rickman, Truffaut Award 2014

Actor and director ALAN RICKMAN will receive the 2014 Francois Truffaut Award on July 23 July at this year’s Giffoni Experience, it was announced today by the Festival’s director Claudio Gubitosi. A Golden Globe, BAFTA, Emmy and SAG award-winning actor, Rickman is perhaps best known by younger audiences worldwide as the half-blood wizard, ‘Severus Snape,’ in the hugely successful Harry Potter film franchise. The multifaceted artist is equally at ease on stage or screen. He is currently in post-production on A Little Chaos, his second feature film as director, which stars Kate Winslet and Matthias Schoenaerts.  Rickman also appears in the film and co-wrote the screenplay. Born and raised in London, England, Alan Rickman studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and worked with various British repertory and experimental theatre groups in the UK. In 1987, he earned a Tony Award nomination for his performance on Broadway as the Vicomte de Valmont, in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of  Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses. His extensive theater credits include Private Lives(Tony nomination), John Gabriel Borkman, Hamlet, Seminar, and he directed The Winter Guest both on stage in London and as a feature film adaptation starring Emma Thompson on screen. Rickman made his feature film debut in Die Hard. His film credits, ranging from drama to comedy to musical, include Truly, Madly, Deeply, Sense and Sensibility(BAFTA nomination), Love Actually, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, for which he won a BAFTA Award, Galaxy Quest, both Sweeney Todd and Alice in Wonderland for director Tim Burton, The Hitchhiiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and most recently Lee Daniels’ The Butler. Rickman won an Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award for his performance in the title role of HBO’s Rasputin. His television credits include the BBC’s The Barchester Chronicles and HBO’s Emmy Award-winning Something the Lord Made.

João Borges is the winner of the Jury Prize

João Borges is the winner of the Jury Prize organized by Giffoni Experience that, after choosing its 2014 iconographic image with the international contest "Be different", which involved more than 1,000 participants from 51 countries, launched January 31 the second stage of the competition which ended yesterday. The Portuguese winner, who scored 1074 preferences with an appealing and colorful poster, has the privilege of taking up the cover of the Facebook page of the GFF for two weeks from today, in addition to receiving a special prize will consist of gadgets of GFF .   In second place is located Anita Mowczan, from Poland, with 993 votes, while the third place was taken by the Italian Irene Petagna with 381 preferences. Of the 40 works selected by the artistic direction of Giffoni, among more than 600 submitted, the top ten most voted with the system of "likes", will occupy the front cover of Giffoni facebook page for two weeks starting today and until June 30 .       The winning image of the Jury Prize

Giffoni Experience, after having chosen the artwork for the 2014 theme thanks to the International contest “Be different“, , which involved more than 1000 participants from 51 countries, is set to alunch the second phase for the general public award.   Giffoni Experience has selected 50 works among the 600 entries for the general public award to be voted through its facebook page. The works will be voted through the "likes". The one with the most likes will receive a special prize consisting of GFF gadgets. The first ten to be chosen from Februaru 13 will be the cover image of the Giffoni facebook page for two weeks each.    In order to vote you need to be a fan of the Giffoni Experience facebook page (70.000 fan - www.facebook.com/GiffoniExperience). It is possible to vote for more than one work. Be Different contest: here's the winner!

Giffoni Experience has chosen its image for 2014. Continuing to focus on the concept of  "shared" festival where  the program is built along with the audience, Giffoni Experience launched last September, an international creative contest (open to all: professionals and not) for the creation of the image for the 44th edition of festival which will take place July 18 to 27 , 2014.   The contest has involved more than 1,000 participants from 51 countries (Albania, Argentina , Australia, Austria , Belarus, Belgium , Bosnia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, South Korea, Croatia, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Philippines Finland , France , Germany, Japan , Greece, India , Indonesia, Iran , Ireland, Israel, Italy , Macedonia , Mexico, Netherlands, Poland , Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic , Romania, Russia , Serbia, Singapore , Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, United States, Sweden , Taiwan, Turkey , Ukraine, Hungary , Uruguay and Vietnam). Over 600 exclusive works (illustrations , photographs, design and graphic design ) came over. Every work expresses very different concepts and interesting theme for the contest: BE DIFFERENT.   The jury - made ​​up of experts in the field of graphics and illustrations, and the artistic direction of the Festival - has considered carefully all the works received, decreeing the winning work as the one realized by Federico Babina & Nuria Raspall Guillamont two illustrators living in Barcelona who will receive a prize of € 2,000 and a trip to Giffoni during the festival period .   The two illustrators have tried to translate the image into their personal concept of BE DIFFERENT. "The surrealist image of a different animal was the best metaphor to represent the dream experience that gives us the cinema" - these are the words of the winners. "Each animal is shown with atypical small details that emphasize the originality and diversity without influence recognizability. Drawings are a series of stories that overlap and are converted into one story where fantasy and reality merge to form a parallel world . The GFF at Chinh India Kids Film Festival

On November 8 three Giffoni Experience jurors will fly to India to take part in the seventh edition of the Chinh India Kids Film Festival & Forum held in New Delhi from 9 to 14 November. Elena, Antonio and Alessia, will be chaperoned by Natascia De Rosa, The Giffoni experience Head of Juries who will also contribute in a forum on how a festival dedicated to youth can change their vision of the world.   Many Indian youth will participate in the event togetehr with a delegation of International jurors. They will be tasked with whatching feature films, short films and animation. The three Italian youth will be hosted by local families who will give them a taste of India.   During their stay the jurors will whatch the films included in the Kids for Kids section and will also take part in two workshops: "Teenagers' life in Italy and How to cook an Italian meal". Giffoni - Macedonia

The first edition of the Giffoni Macedonia Youth Film Festival has wrapped up and we are proud to say that it was a huge success. The closing ceremony took place in thel Youth Centre in Skopje, the Macedonian capital city. The formula replicated the same format of the GFF and included a jury composed of 500 youth aged between 10 and 18  from six countries (Albania, Greece, Italy, Romania, Serbia and Macedonia) who were tasked with viewing a selection of films screened at the recent Giffoni Film Festival. The jurors chose REGRET! by Dave Schram for the +13 secion and PIECES OF ME by Nolwenn Lemesle for the +16 one. Italian movie L’ULTIMO GOAL by Federico Di Cicilia, was also in the review. The director attended together with producer Alberto De Matteis.   Durang the closing cerimony an Italian-Macedonian co-production made by GFF production team Luca Apolito, Gianvincenzo Nastasi and Francesco Paglioli was also screened. FOR ANGELA, revolves around the story of a musician who suddenly ceases to play music. He will only be able to go back to playing after his encounter with Angela, another musician, who will inspire and inject the needed creativity in him again.   Giffoni Experience artistic director, Claudio Gubitosi claimed: “Skopje experienced the spirit of Giffoni. The results exceeded all my expectations." The event was wrapped up with a new agreement between the Ministery of Culture of both countries.  Macedonia was, moreover, invited by the Provincia di Salerno and by the Italian Embassy as a guest of honour at the  Borsa Mediterranea per lo scambio del Turismo Archeologico, to be held in November in Paestum.   "The youth were incredible and showed great enthusiasm and interest -said Gubitosi – in all the workshops. The theatres were full to capacity, the main square in Skopje, with all the statues representing the most important charachters of the history of Macedonia, the thousands of balloons showing the Giffoni-Macedonia logo. Public and private Television. Full rooms. The Macedonian Minister of Culture  Elizabeta Kanceska - Milevska visited the festival premises more than once and seemed smitten by all the activities. Italian Ambassador Ernesto Massimino Bellelli and Cultural councillor Alessandra Ksenija Jelen showed great pride for the Giffoni Experience.  Darko Basheski, the director of the Film Centre confirmed that the Giffoni formula is to be extended within the upcoming months, to other towns ”.     Whilst in Skopje Giffoni received other cooperation requests by the people in charge of the Film Foundation of the Ministery of Culture in Georgia and by the kids in charge of the Seattle Film Festival. “Campania, once again thanks to Giffoni – claims Gubitosi – is a cultural attractor in the world. Thanks to the collaboration of the Art Academy the Giffoni production team, was able to write and develop a film by young Macedonian students which left the audience in the theatre in awe. Giffoni is set to go back to the Balkans with the ninth edition of Giffoni-Albania, which will take place November 19 - 24 . Then after that we will go to Qatar, where we are collaborating wiht the Doha Film Institute on the first edition of the Ayjal Film Festival to be held November 26 - 30.  The ball has already started rolling yet again for the second edition of Giffoni-Sao Paolo to be held in January 2014 for thousands of Brazilian youth. This all happens under the umbrella of the Giffoni World Alliance, because the cooperation with International partners is of the essence and helps to promote the culture of Campania in the world. Just a few days ago I received a phone call by Caterina Miraglia, the Tourism Councillor to Campania, who is in Argentina for an official visit, who was happy to comfirm the interest of the Governor of Buenos Aires to carry out an event with the Giffoni spirit there too. The request is part of an agreement between Regione Campania  and Argentina”.   The second edition of the Giffoni Macedonia Youth Film Festival is scheduled to take place in October 2014.
