BACK TO THE ‘80S AND DISNEY – UNDER THE SEA: ACCLAIMED THE MARATHONS ON GIFFONI 2018’S EVE

Traditions are renewed but enthusiasm is still the same: two inaugurating marathons were protagonists of the first 24 hours of the Giffoni’s 48th edition. Giffoners and jurors’ hearts were warmed in the Multimedia Valley by BACK TO THE 80’S, a collection of six representative films from the ‘80s created in collaboration with INFINITY and UNIVERSAL PICTURES HOME ENTERTAINMENT ITALIA.

The long night was opened by “Blade Runner”, the 1984’s cinematographic masterpiece by Ridley Scott that has changed science fiction and crowned Harrison Ford’s myth. A very attentive and mixed-age audience filled the house, not only made of youths wearing badges and T-shirts of the new edition: “I am afraid I am not a juror – explained a young Giffoner – but I love cinematography and I am excited to watch the old films I love on the big screen. It is completely different in here!”. She also added: “I have only watched the second chapter of Blade Runner but I am interested in discovering how technology has changed between the first and the second film over the past 40 years”.

There is even who flew from England in order not to miss this long-awaited appointment: “I study cinematography at University of Warwick in Coventry, Yorkshire, and I am incredibly excited to be back to the Giffoni – said a young masterclasser – I have been a juror over the past years and I see that everything has changed now, it has become so big that I must find my bearings! I love cinematography and I have started working in production and script writing at university”. A more amusing and chilling atmosphere was in Sala Lumiere, where marathon DISNEY – UNDER THE SEA was screened. Happy kids spread the enthusiasm of the festival: “Mum wants me to go home, but I want to stay here and watch all movies”, protested a 12-year-old juror of Elements +10. Moana was the most awaited film by the little spectators, “probably because it’s the most contemporary one, it’s recent and its animation is great, the water is a masterpiece”, explained a girl together with four friends of hers. Giffoni Film Festival magic has just started again with a continuous flux of images, music and emotions.
