Sibilia and Calabresi to Masterclass youths: "Film producers don't like taking risks"

A strange couple gave a Masterclass yesterday at Giffoni Film Festival: the film director from Salerno, Sydney Sibilia, and the Roman actor Paolo Calabresi. They captivated the audience talking about Italy's temporary employees in the comedy Smetto Quando Voglio.

"The idea was born after having read an article, on the newspaper Repubblica, about two graduated in philosophy who had found a job as roadsweeper in Rome – said the film director – I proposed it to Valerio Attanasio, the scriptwriter, and by the end of one year the script was almost ready".

The film has been supported by the expert film producer Domenico Procacci: "I tried to make a different kind of comedy and studio Fandango immediately accepted – went on Sibilia – We're undoubtedly living hard times, film producers don't like taking risks, but it's also true that almost no one suggests creative ideas".

Calabresi expressed his opinion about Smetto Quando Voglio as well: "Sydney set up a casting to select the actors. He chose the best ones and then he gave them their roles. The film is about meritocracy, we couldn't have selected them without a casting".

Common future projects for Sydeny and Paolo: "We're shooting a mini-series, Zio Gianni, that will be broadcasted in Italy on Rai2 - announced the actor – It has been written by The Pills and it follows the story of a man who loses both job and wife and takes up residence with three twenty-year-old youths".

Sydeny is also working on his second full-lenght film: "I can only say it'll be a comedy and it'll be produced by Fandango".
