Films in competition, 24 July

 For Elements+6 children it’s the turn of Land of Good Kids by Olga Kaptur (Russia, 2013), scheduled at 15 in Sala Alberto Sordi. Naughty Sasha is magically transported into the fairy Land of Good Kids for re-education and rehabilitation, after her parents have replaced her with a good little girl. The Land of Good Kids is ruled by a strict Queen and the citizens’ life is governed by strict rules.In order to get back to her parents, Sasha will have to overcome a set of difficult trials, but she can count on the help of her true friends, Baguette the cat and Balbes the dog.

Elements +10 presents The Outlaw League by Jean Baudry (Canada, 2014), at 09:30 in Sala Alberto Sordi. Summer vacation is the chance for Nicholas to resume his greatest pleasure: playing baseball with his friends, trying at the same time to distance himself from is tough family situation. But a major obstacle is in store for the kids who has assembled at the village baseball field: the town council has decided to convert the field into a municipal dump. With Nicolas as their leader, the kids will resist the mayor's machinations with all their strength.

Generator +13 youth will attend the screening of One Night in Oslo by Eirik Svensson (Sweden, 2014), at 10:00 in Sala Truffaut. On the Eve of The Norwegian Day of Liberation, a whole nation is gearing up to party hard. Sam and Amir, two 15 year-old boys, have decided this is going to be an epic, legendary night. But the next 24 hours will put a strain on their brotherhood, as Sam has fallen for Thea, Amir’s former girlfriend. He knows he has to tell Amir, yet he doesn’t know how. When Sam finally summons up the courage to confess, Amir’s reaction is far worse than he could ever have imagined.

Generator +16 competition goes on with Mateo by Maria Gamboa (Colombia/France, 2014). Driven by his criminal uncle, 16 year-old Mateo agrees to infiltrate into a local theatre group in order to uncover its members’ political activities. As he becomes enthralled with the free and creative lifestyle of the crew, his uncle escalates demands, asking him to produce incriminating information on the actors. Under pressure, Mateo will have to make difficult choices.

Generator +18 jurors are scheduled to watch Left Foot Right Foot by Germinal Roaux (France/Switzerland, 2013) at 10:00 in Sala Lumière. Marie, a reserved 18-year-old, is drawn by luxury and glitter like a moth to a flame. Her life dramatically changes when she meets Olivier, a wealthy nightclub owner, who is unable to resist her charm. Through him, she learns how to make easy money without realizing what she has got herself into. Her boyfriend Vincent, who looks after his autistic and mute brother Mika, remains unaware of Marie’s secret life, until the day when…

For GEx Doc it's the turn of Linar by Nastia Tarasova (Russia, 2013), set for screening at 15:10 in Sala Lumière. In Russia, heart transplants to children have been banned since 1993, therefore Linar, a 5-year-old Russian kid in need of a new heart, has to live stuck to a huge machine on wheels, that constantly pumps his blood. He has been waiting for a year to get a donor heart, but there are no changes in the legislation. The Russian Ministry of Health finally allocates money for the operation abroad. A special plane flies Linar to a small Italian town together with young surgeon Marcel Tagaev. They will spend two months in an Italian hospital, waiting for a new heart which is becoming increasingly needed.
