Titina the dog and the fight for glory: a story of triumph and defeat screened at Sala Lumière for Elements +6

Umberto Nobile is an Italian aeronautical engineer. He leads a quiet life and has an inseparable friend: is his beloved dog Titina, found on the street in Rome, and rescued from stray dogs. Suddenly, the famous Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen bursts on the scene: he contacts the aeronautical engineer and orders him to build an airship to go and conquer the North Pole. This may be the turning point of his career. This professional opportunity, however, will also have other implications that will slowly surface impacting his personal life. Nobile wants to take advantage of this opportunity and does so without separating from Titina, with whom he has now established a symbiotic relationship. The pair become a trio of friend-colleagues. They set out on an expedition very far away, to a hidden and unknown place on earth. The quest proves successful, but it is this success that creates imbalance: the two men begin to fight over fame and glory. Everything is scaled down and reviewed through the eyes of the little dog: a story of triumph but also of defeat takes shape. It is the little dog Titina the four-legged celebrity.

Kajsa Næss - who leads  the direction - explains the development of the story, which she calls "peculiar." "I'm surprised I've never heard of it," she adds, "it's a huge media event from the 1920s, and the airship makes it really exceptional. With the passage of time, however, the memory has become faint, and the recollection faded: it has almost been lost and most Norwegians today do not know how Amundsen died or that he disappeared in search of Umberto Nobile. Amundsen is an icon, but this part of his life is less known. Titina's presence is another thing that surprised me greatly. She has no particular enthusiasm for risky expeditions and she is definitely not made for polar adventures. The Arctic is no place for small dogs: why take her there? And how was it possible for a little dog to travel on an airship?"
