Winter is coming early to Italy this year. On July 19, the battle for the iron throne moves to the Giffoni Experience when “Game of Thrones”star Kit Harington will meet the international jury of youth at the 47th Giffoni Film Festival (14 – 22 July, 2017) and receive the Giffoni Experience Award 2017.
Harington is well known to fans for his portrayal of Jon Snow, Eddard Stark’s “bastard son” and King of Winterfell, on HBO’s phenomenally successful series Game of Thrones. Since the show debuted in 2011, the cast of Game of Thrones has been nominated five times for “Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series” at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Harington was also individually nominated for his work on the series at the Primetime Emmy Awards and Critics’ Choice Television Awards in 2016. Game of Thrones will return on July 16 this year for its seventh season.
Born in London, Kit Harington studied drama and theatre at the Central School of Speech & Drama, a constituent of the University of London. Before graduating in 2008, he won the lead role of Albert in the Royal National Theatre's London production of the smash hit “War Horse”. The production transferred to London's West End at the New London Theatre, and he stayed with the role until 2009 after which he appeared in “Posh”, by Laura Wade, at the Royal Court Theatre in London.
Harington recently made his much anticipated West End return in the Jamie Lloyd directed production of Christopher Marlow’s “Doctor Faustus,” playing the title role.
This year Harington transitions into the role of Executive Producer on a brand-new three part BBC drama series titled, “Gunpowder”. The series will star Harington, Peter Mullan, Mark Gatiss and Liv Tyler. Every year on November 5 the English mark the discovery of the Gunpowder Plot in London in 1605 with bonfires and fireworks. It is often called Guy Fawkes Day because many people believe – erroneously – that the plot was devised by Guy Fawkes. However, while Fawkes played a pivotal role, the man who dreamed up the plot and was its driving force was Robert Catesby (Harington), a 30-year old Warwickshire gentleman.
His upcoming film projects include the English-language film from French-Canadian director Xavier Dolan, “The Life and Death of John F Donovan”.
Past film projects include the HBO sports mockumentary “7 Days in Hell,” Sony Pictures Classics drama “Testament of Youth” and the big-screen adaptation of the hit British spy series “Spooks: The Greater Good”. He also lent his voice to the animated film “How to Train Your Dragon 2” which won the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film in 2014 and received an Academy Award nomination.
