Giffoni Georgia 2016

Owing to the initiative of the Georgian National Film Centre a youth film festival “Giffoni-Georgia 2016“ will be held at Kakha Bendukidze University Campus, Tbilisi,  from June 24 to 26, 2016. 350 young people from 6 countries (Georgia, Italy, Macedonia, Croatia, Armenia, Azerbaijan) aged 13-18 will participate in the Festival.   

The Festival aims to promote free thinking in the young generation, as well as to upgrade their cultural and educational level and through Cinematographic Art to facilitate their intercommunications and help them develop the skill of critical thinking. Besides film screenings, the film festival programme envisages discussions, meetings with film producers and actors, workshops and other activities. Participants will have the opportunity to participate in various workshops aimed to teach young people how to make animation or write a screenplay, how to create film posters and conduct framing.

The Giffoni International Film Festival is the largest children’s film festival in the world, which has been held annually in Italy since 1971. In 2016, 3900 participants from 50 countries will make up the jury of the Festival. The Giffoni International Film Festival has a worldwide network and Georgia is a part of this network.

It should be noted that the first Giffoni Film Festival in Georgia was held on December 14, 2014 and 250 children throughout Georgia participated in it. In 2015, 500 children took part in a four-day Giffoni Film Festival. It is also noteworthy, that Georgia is the single country in the region which holds the exclusive rights to conduct the Festival.   

“Giffoni-Georgia 2016“ is organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, the Cultural Events Centre of the Tbilisi City Hall and the Embassy of Italy in Georgia.

The Film Festival will be held from June 24 to 26 (from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.) at Kakha Bendukidze University Campus (address: # 240, David Aghmashenebeli Alley).
