'MARNIE' BY YONEBAYASHI, THE FINAL STUDIO GHIBLI FILM, PREMIÈRES AT GIFFONI

It’s likely to be the last feature film for a long time, if not forever, for Studio Ghibli, among the most prominent film studios in the latest 35 years, which is going to take a temporary hiatus due to the flop of “The Tale of Princess Kaguya” by Isao Takahata and in the wake of Miyazaki's retirement.

When Marnie Was There”, based on the children book by Joan G. Robinson with the same name and set to première soon at Giffoni Film Festival, is the latest and long-awaited work by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Miyazaki’s dearest pupil, who’s already announced that he would retire in order to devote himself to totally different projects in future.

The animated film - set for Italian release on August 24, 25 and 26 2015 by Lucky Red – follows Anna, a twelve-year-old, shy and loner orphan, who’s spending a vacation break with her foster parents due to medical reasons. In an apparently abandoned mansion,  Anna meets Marnie, a beautiful and mysterious girl with long and blonde hair, and the two of them immediately become best but secret friends, in a growing wave of surprises which are going to disclosure a lot of staggering sides of Marnie.
