Giffoni Macedonia Youth Festival: 12 - 17 October in Skopje to talk about culture, cinema and digital

The seventh edition will see 600 young people from various countries. The Ministery of Cultural Heritage will support the initiative.

Cinematheatre, music, photographydance, environment and using the web correctly are core to the seventh edition of the Giffoni Macedonia Youth Festival, scheduled 12 - 17 October in Skopje. The project is supported by Ministery of Cultural Heritage in Italy, by Ministery of Culture in Macedonia, by the National Film Agency of Northern Macedonia and is organzed by Giffoni Opportunity and the Macedonian agancy Planet M.

"The activity of Giffoni Opportunity in Macedonia - underlines the director, Claudio Gubitosi - follows the path taken in 2013 to involve the whole Balkan area in a training and cultural project that grows year after year. Giffoni, even more strongly on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, is not only exporting a brand that has achieved amazing results, but also aims at spreading a new platform dedicated to the new generations of different areas of the world. After Albania where we were busy for so many years, in Macedonia we have found a fantastic reality, well-prepared girls and boys with an active participation, cultural organizations, local and national institutions that immediately starting supporting the event and are now leaders, and beside Skopje many other cities in Northern Macedonia will be touched by a tour that will involve over 30 thousand students, I would also like to thank our Italian Embassy in Skopje, in the person of the ambassador Carlo Romeo, the director of Giffoni Macedonia Darko Basheski and the director of the Macedonian Film Agency Gorjan Tozija ”.

The formula of the event will follow the consolidated format of the Giffoni Film Festival, with an international jury divided into three groups: juniors (from 10 to 14 years old), cadets (from 14 to 16 years old) and seniors (from 16 to 19 years old). The protagonists are over 600 young people from nine nations such as Italy, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan. The opening evening is scheduled for Saturday 12 October at the Cinema Millenium with the screening of the film THE IMPERFECT AGE by Ulisse Lendaro, preceded by a performance by Luca Chikovani, a young Italian singer and actor of Georgian descent, among the actors of LAZZARO FELICE by  Alice Rohrwacher.

The program is very rich: the juniors will be gathered at the Macedonian Film Library where, every day, they will be able to attend screenings dedicated to their age target. The jurors will also participate in multidisciplinary workshops on theatre, illustration and modern dance. Cadets and seniors, on the other hand, will be at MKC (Macedonian Youth Center) where they will attend screenings and deepen their knowledge in six educational workshops on film editing, animation, stage make-up and photography. There will be music: thanks to the collaboration with the Skopje Jazz Festival, they will be able to enjoy a performance that  have inspired the greatest directors. Other events include the farewell party with DJ Mirabello, previews, meetings with actors, directors, Macedonian and international artists. The final evening of the Festival, with the presentations of the works carried out by the students during the workshops, will be held on Thursday 17 October at the Cinema Millenium.

The underlying theme of the event will be the protection of the environment and the responsible use of the web: the former wants to retrace the trilogy, strongly desired by Giffoni, for the preservation of the planet Earth, the latter is part of the awareness and education activity aimed at young people on the use of the network. In parallel with the activities of Giffoni Macedonia, in fact, the itinerant educational campaign realized by the SIC - Generations connected in collaboration with the Italian Postal and Communications Police, “Una vita da social” will be presented in Skopje. A truck set up with a multimedia teaching classroom, located in strategic areas of the city, will allow Postal Police officers to meet students, parents and teachers to address online security and cyberbullying prevention.

The Italian delegation will be particularly numerous: together with the giffoners the Giffoni Opportunity team will also include the director Claudio Gubitosi, the strategy manager Jacopo Gubitosi, the president Pietro Rinaldi, the vice-president Gioacchino Duccilli, the head of special projects Marco Cesaro and the team of the jury office represented by Marta Frasca and Francesca Pecoraro.

Giffoni will return to Skopye - said Gubitosi - in January with other events planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary”.
