Progetto senza titolo 57Carlo Verdone

Carlo Verdone was born in Rome in 1950. His father, the film critic Mario Verdone, introduced him to cinema, sharing his passion with him. After graduating from classical high school, Carlo graduated in directing at the Experimental Center of Cinematography in Rome and graduated with honors in Modern Literature. In the '70s he tried his hand at directing with small short films and experiments and covered various roles, especially as assistant director, also collaborating with Franco Zeffirelli.
As an actor he made his debut in the theater with the Gruppo Teatro Arte and then on TV in the Tv show Non Stop (1977). The various characters he played also appear in his first film, UN SACCO BELLO (1980), which came to light after meeting the maestro Sergio Leone. The debut immediately earned him a David di Donatello and a Silver Ribbon as best new actor. Leone will remain alongside him as producer also in his second work, BIANCO, ROSSO E VERDONE (1981), a comedy that also launches other important collaborations, such as the one with Elena Fabrizi, or Sora Lella, and the other with the screenwriters Leo Welcome and Piero De Bernardi.
The 80s seem to affirm his dual virtuosic nature as an actor and director with an escalation of awards received by his comedies. Verdone soon became a portraitist of the average Italian between the 80s and 2000s. Among the films he directed we mention: TROPPO STRONG (1986), both with Alberto Sordi, COMPAGNI DI SCUOLA (1988), MALEDETTO IL GIORNO CHE T'HO INCONTRATO (1992), AL LUPO AL LUPO (1992) O VIAGGI DI NOZZE (1995), C'ERA UN CINESE IN COMA (2000), L'AMORE È ETERNO FINCHÉ DURA (2004), GRANDE, GROSSO E...VERDONE (2008), IO, LORO E LARA (2010), SOTTO UNA BUONA STELLA (2014), BENEDETTA FOLLIA (2018). Verdone has also starred in many films not directed by him, such as IN VIAGGIO CON PAPÀ (1982), directed by Alberto Sordi, the MANUALE D’AMORE trilogy by Giovanni Veronesi, as well as the Oscar-winning THE GREAT BEAUTY by Paolo Sorrentino, for which he won a Silver Ribbon for Best Supporting Actor.
