The story begins at the end, with the last jokes between General Dalla Chiesa, now Prefect of Palermo, and his young second wife Emmanuela Setti Carraro. The feeling of catastrophe heralds the barrage of bullets that will kill the couple instantly. As in a flashback, from there starts the ride: who was that Piedmontese, son of a Carabinieri General, where did he come from? Volunteer in Montenegro in the early years of World War II, Lieutenant of the Carabinieri in San Benedetto del Tronto during the partisan Resistance, part of the Squadriglie Group Command of the Banditry Repression Forces in Sicily in the early years of the Republic and then Captain serving in Rome, Florence, Como, Milan… A career earned on the battlefield, returning to Sicily, first as Commander of the Legion of Palermo, where he had studied the mafia phenomenon, and finally as Prefect. A final sacrifice for him, no longer in uniform and with only one man to escort him, to demonstrate that law is stronger than mafia and that he was not afraid.
