Biography

Giovanni Caccamo is a singer-songwriter. Discovered by Franco Battiato, in the summer of 2012 he opened Battiato's concerts of the tour Apriti Sesamo and the dates of the special event Franco Battiato feat. Antony and the Johnsons. He also won the "Nuove proposte" (New proposals) section at the 65th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival, as well as the "Mia Martini" critics' award, the "Lucio Dalla" press room award and the "Emanuele Luzzati" award.

He has written songs for Patty Pravo, Carmen Consoli, Malika Ayane, Emma, Elodie, Francesca Michielin and Matteo Bocelli. In September 2015, he lent his voice for the Disney Pixar short film Lava, which preceded the film Inside Out, performing with singer Malika Ayane. He participated in the 66th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival in the Bigs category, taking third place. Since April 10, 2016 he has been co-hosting the Radio 2 show Nessuno mi può giudicare - Testa a Testa with Caterina Caselli. On July 26, 2016, he joined Andrea Bocelli, Carly Paoli, David Foster in Music For Mercy, an event that celebrated the Jubilee of Mercy at the Roman Forum. 

The artist's first two albums feature two significant collaborations: a duet with Franco Battiato in the track Satelliti nell'aria and a duet with Carmen Consoli in the track Resta con me, both of which were entirely written by Caccamo himself. On November 10, 2016, Giovanni's first epistolary novel, Dialogo con mia madre, was published by Rizzoli. In autumn 2016, the singer was the host of the 59th edition of Zecchino d'Oro, together with Francesca Fialdini. In the spring of 2017, he was part of the project S'ignora, supported by Fiat and Unesco Giovani and aimed at shining a spotlight on "hidden beauty" through art, music and architecture. In October 2017, Caccamo started his adventure on television as a Tutor in the school of Amici, aired on Saturdays on Canale 5 and daily on Real Time. On February 9, 2018, following his participation in the 68th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival with the song Eterno and the release of the hit Puoi fidarti di me − theme song of Alessandro Genovesi's film Puoi baciare lo sposo −, the third album of the Sicilian singer-songwriter was released. The single Eterno reached 10 million views and 5 million streams, achieving great success. On May 23, 2018, he performed under the Falcone tree at Palermo chiama Italia, an event in memory of Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. On October 6, 2018, he sang for Pope Francis at the Sala Nervi in Vatican City on the occasion of the Synod on Young People. On February 8, 2019, he was a guest at the Sanremo Music Festival with Patty Pravo. In the summer of 2019, he was named Advocate of the Andrea Bocelli Foundation. The Eterno Tour got over 50 shows in Italy and also landed for abroad in Lima, Santiago, Rancagua, Tokyo, Budapest, Cairo, Tunis, Algiers. On April 26, Giovanni Caccamo represented Italy at the Festival Pathway to Paris: Earth Day 50, performing along with Michael Stipe from R.E.M., Patti Smith, Johnny Depp, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Cat Power, Ben Harper and many other artists. The concert was organized by Jesse Paris Smith and Rebecca Foon to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Caccamo is also testimonial of the worldwide campaign Made to Measure of Canali 1934, an outstanding example of Italian tailoring tradition. In January 2021, he came back as a songwriting tutor at the school of Amici on Canale 5. In the summer of 2021 he was on tour with Michele Placido with Parola Anteprima Tour, a journey through songs and poetry in the major Italian theaters. The tour was a great success, with many sold-out dates. On September 17, 2021, his fourth album, Parola, was released. It features the extraordinary participation of Willem Dafoe, Aleida Guevara, Patti Smith, Liliana Segre, Michele Placido, Beppe Fiorello and an archive recording of Andrea Camilleri.
