Films in competition on July 21

Thursday 21st July offers several films in competition: screenings start at 10am in Sala Truffaut where +13 section proposes MY REVOLUTION by Ramzi Ben Sliman (France 2015): with the Arab Spring blossoming in the heart of Paris, people take to the streets to show their support. Everyone except 14-year-old Marwann who, despite his Tunisian roots, is too preoccupied with adolescence, getting his parents off his back, becoming popular at school, and impressing his crush, Sygrid.

For Generator +18, at 10.15am in Sala Lumière, there is the full length film URBAN HYMN (UK): set against the backdrop of the 2011 British summer riots, the film is a redemptive coming of age story set in South-West London and follows wayward teen Jamie. The screening is preceded at 10.00 am by the short film Jonas and the Sea by Marlies van der Wel (the Netherlands, 2015): Jonas has dreamed of living in the sea all his life. But it’s not possible. Or is it?

BLUE BICYCLE by Umit Koreken (Turkey/Germany, 2016) is screened for section +10 in Sala Sordi at 2.30pm. The film follows the story of 12-year-old Turkish Ali, who works after school to help her mother making ends meet after his father was killed in a work accident.

In competition for Generator +16, at 2.30pm in Sala Truffaut, there is MELLOW MUD by Renars Vimba (Latvia, 2016), a story where loneliness, disillusionment and the experience of first love reveal the character of Raya, a 17-year-old living in rural Latvia with her grandmother and her little brother Robis.

At 3.00pm it’s the turn of GEX DOC with DREAMING OF DENMARK by Michael Graversen (Denmark, 2015), based on the true story of Wasiullah who is hoping to obtain a residence permit that will allow him to stay in Denmark, that he reached alone after leaving Afghanistan when he was 15 years old.
