Alessandro Gassman
Born 1965, Rome (Italy). In 1982 he made his debut in the feature film DI PADRE IN FIGLIO, which he wrote, directed and co-starred along with his father Vittorio. His career continued with performances for the theatre, cinema and TV. He worked with film directors such as Bigas Luna and Mauro Bolognini, struck an artistic partnership with Gianmarco Tognazzi, participated in international films, co-starred in the feature film CAOS CALMO, directed by Antonello Grimaldi, starring Nanni Moretti. For this role, he was honoured with several awards. For the theatre he has directed and starred in ROMAN E IL SUO CUCCIOLO (Italian adaptation of the play CUBA AND HIS TEDDY BEAR), which won the UBU prize for best performance of the year in 2010, and the Premio Flaiano - Pegaso d’Oro. In 2013 he debuted with his first classic, William Shakespeare’s RICHARD III. Since 2009 he has held the position of Director of Teatro Stabile del Veneto.
Alessandro Gassman
Nato nel 1965 a Roma. Nel 1982 debutta al cinema con il film DI PADRE IN FIGLIO, scritto, diretto e interpretato insieme al padre Vittorio. La sua carriera continua dividendosi fra teatro, cinema e tv. Lavora con registi come Bigas Luna e Mauro Bolognini, stringe un sodalizio artistico con Gianmarco Tognazzi, partecipa a produzioni internazionali, e ottiene diversi riconoscimenti grazie all’interpretazione nel film CAOS CALMO (2008), di Antonello Grimaldi, con Nanni Moretti. A teatro, dirige e interpreta, tra gli altri, ROMAN E IL SUO CUCCIOLO (adattamento italiano della pièce CUBA AND HIS TEDDY BEAR), premio UBU 2010 come migliore spettacolo dell’anno e Premio Flaiano - Pegaso d’Oro. Nel 2013 esordisce con il suo primo classico, il RICCARDO III di Shakespeare. Dal 2009 è Direttore del Teatro Stabile del Veneto.

“THE MONGREL is a film adaptation of the theatrical play CUBA AND HIS TEDDY BEAR, that tells the touching story of an unresolved love relationship between a heroin dealing father and his drug addicted son. The film speaks the language of the street and has proven on the stage, under the title ROMAN E IL SUO CUCCIOLO, to have the power to deeply affect the public and critics alike. The movie, adapted for the screen by Vittorio Moroni, shows that the story is perfectly suited to the cinema, addressing the most intimate aspects of the two main characters and showing their brutal and contemporary world. The strangest thing about watching the movie, but at the same time the most exciting and surprising, has been to witness that it was exactly how I pictured it in my mind. This was made possible by the courage of the production, which I thank, but especially thanks to a totally involved and talented team which supported me, giving me courage and self-confidence. I worked with total freedom, without hesitations. If this movie will make you move, smile or excite, it means that this vision without compromises, has been successful thanks to the work of the whole team. For me it has really been a dream come true”.

“RAZZABASTARDA è un adattamento della pièce teatrale CUBA AND HIS TEDDY BEAR, che racconta la storia toccante di un rapporto d’amore irrisolto tra un padre, spacciatore di eroina, e un figlio tossicodipendente. Il film parla il linguaggio della strada, e ha dimostrato in teatro, con il titolo ROMAN E IL SUO CUCCIOLO, di poter colpire profondamente il pubblico e la critica. L’adattamento cinematografico curato da Vittorio Moroni dimostra che il mezzo filmico si adatta perfettamente a questa storia, entrando nelle pieghe più intime dei due protagonisti e raccontando il loro ‘mondo’ così brutalmente attuale. Vedendo il film la sensazione più strana, ma allo stesso tempo eccitante e sorprendente, è stato vedere che è esattamente come me lo ero immaginato. Questo è stato possibile grazie al coraggio della produzione, che ringrazio, ma soprattutto a una troupe totalmente coinvolta, di talento, che mi ha assecondato, dandomi sicurezza e coraggio. Ho lavorato in totale libertà, senza mai tirare il freno, e se questo film vi farà emozionare, sorridere, vorrà dire che quella visione, non ‘mediata’ dal mezzo filmico, è riuscita, grazie al lavoro di tutti. Per me è stato davvero come vedere un sogno realizzarsi”.
