Giacomo Campeotto
Born 1964, Denmark. Assistant director of TV drama series and TV entertainment since 1997. Director of stage drama since 1993. His feature film debut, the successful children’s film NASTY BRATS (MØGUNGER, 2003) was screened at GFF 2003 (Kidz section). He has helmed two films of KNIGHTS TEMPLAR series which have sold worldwide. STORM is his fourth feature film.

Il suo primo lungometraggio è un film per ragazzi di grande successo, L’ESTATE DI GEORGE (MØGUNGER, 2003), presentato al GFF nel 2003, nella sezione Kidz. Ha diretto due film della serie dedicata al TESORO DEI TEMPLARI, venduta in tutto il mondo. STORM è il suo quarto film.
Director’s statement
“The family movie STORM tells the story of 12-year old Freddie who, after a chance meeting, forms a close friendship with the dog Storm. Freddie is an ordinary boy, but since the death of his mother five year's prior he has become somewhat introverted. His father Bjørn tries his best to make up for the gap in their lives, but what gives Freddie's life new meaning is his meeting with the dog. All his bottled up emotion is now lavished on Storm – and this more than anything is what heals and makes Freddie stronger. Freddie makes new friends and at the same time his actions positively affect his dad, who finally acknowledges the dog as well as opening up again to life and romance”.
“Tension and thrills is a big part of this film […]. The dog races are edited at a fast pace in order to create the necessary energy and tension. The extreme close-ups of the dogs will create an adrenaline rush for the film-going audience too, but not only visually – the soundtrack will also intensify and underline this experience, so that we'll feel the dogs' strength and speed”.
“Another important element for me is to employ humour – here, in terms of seeing the comedy in the darkness, too, and making us able to cope. The humour must derive organically from the situation, and there is no reason why a tragic moment cannot be the starting point”.
“For me Freddie is a survivor, who – although life deals him a few tough blows – still fights on. I'm truly looking forward to telling this entertaining and, I think, pertinent story of a boy, a ‘little man’, who comes of age”.

“Il film per famiglie STORM racconta la storia di Freddie, un ragazzo di 12 anni che, in seguito a un incontro casuale, stringe una profonda amicizia con un cane di nome Storm. Freddie è un ragazzo come tanti, ma dalla morte di sua madre, avvenuta cinque anni prima, è divenuto un po’ introverso. Suo padre, Bjørn, fa del suo meglio per rimediare alla lacuna occorsa nelle loro esistenze, ma ciò che dà nuovo senso alla vita di Freddie è l’incontro con il cane. Tutti i suoi sentimenti repressi si riversano ora su Storm, ed è questa cosa, più di ogni altra, a guarire Freddie e a renderlo più forte. Freddie si fa nuovi amici, e allo stesso tempo le sue azioni influiscono positivamente su suo padre, che alla fine accoglie il cane e si apre di nuovo alla vita e all’amore”.
“Tensione e brividi sono una parte importante di questo film […]. Le corse dei cani sono costruite su un montaggio molto rapido, al fine di produrre energia e trepidazione. Le inquadrature ravvicinate sui cani creano nel pubblico una scarica di adrenalina, e non solo a livello visivo, perché la colonna sonora intensifica e sottolinea questa esperienza, cosicché gli spettatori possono sentire pienamente la forza e la velocità dei cani”.
“Un altro elemento molto importante del film è per me l’impiego dell’humour: qui si tratta anche di vedere la commedia nell’ombra, per riuscire ad affrontare l’oscurità. L’humour deve nascere organicamente dalla situazione, e non c’è ragione per cui un momento tragico non possa essere la situazione di partenza”.
“Per me il protagonista del film, Freddie, è un sopravvissuto che, pur ricevendo duri colpi dalla vita, continua a combattere. Sono davvero impaziente di raccontare questa emozionante e – credo – pertinente storia di un ragazzo, un ‘piccolo uomo’, che cresce e diventa grande”.
