David Lee Miller
He was born in 1955, in Milwaukee, USA. Graduated in journalism from Stanford University and from creative writing seminars at Princeton, he wrote screenplays for Ivan Reidman and Goldie Hawn among others, and worked on the animated SPIDERMAN series. He has created video and computer games, and a CD-ROM entitled MOZART THE DISSONANT QUARTET. In 1993 he directed the horror BREAKFAST FOR ALIENS. MY SUICIDE is his second feature film.

Laureato in giornalismo alla Stanford University, segue un seminario in scrittura creativa alla Princeton, e scrive sceneggiature (per Ivan Reidman e Goldie Hawn tra gli altri) e lavora alla serie animata SPIDERMAN. È il creatore di video, giochi per computer e del CD-rom MOZART THE DISSONANT QUARTET. Nel 1993 ha diretto l’horror BREAKFAST FOR ALIENS. MY SUICIDE è il suo secondo film.

Director’s statement
“MY SUICIDE and Giffoni 2009’s theme ‘Taboo’ makes for a very cool connection. Because MY SUICIDE is all about confronting the taboos surrounding death, love, sex, family, communication, censorship, media overload, knowledge. Our movie, made with and voiced by young artists, is about the youth condition today […] in an over-connected and disconnected society […] where pre-teens and teens are bombarded daily with beheadings and hardcore porn […] and for the first time in human history are better than their parents at key information and technology skills, but get little or no respect for it. It’s about a boy and a girl, hope and life, and a journey from narcissism to connection – with perhaps the biggest taboo of all as its MacGuffin – suicide”.

“MY SUICIDE è fortemente legato al tema ‘Taboo’ del GFF 2009, perché racconta come affrontare i tabù che circondano la morte, l'amore, il sesso, la famiglia, la comunicazione, la censura, la sovraesposizione ai media, la conoscenza. Il nostro film, realizzato da giovani artisti, parla della condizione giovanile di oggi [...] in una società iperconnessa e scollegata [...] dove i pre-adolescenti e i ragazzi sono bombardati quotidianamente con immagini di decapitazioni e porno hardcore [...] e per la prima volta nella storia umana hanno più informazioni e competenze tecnologiche dei loro genitori, ma sono poco o niente affatto rispettati per questo. Il film è la storia di un ragazzo e una ragazza, di speranza e vita, e del viaggio dal narcisismo alla connessione, e ha come MacGuffin il più grande di tutti i tabù: il suicidio”.
