Lisa Siwe
Siwe was born in 1968 in Gothenburg, and grew up in Stockholm. She is a graduate of the Stockholm Film School and of the Film Directors’ Program of the Swedish University College of Film, Radio, Television and Theatre (DI). Her graduation film “Birthdays and Other Disasters” won the prize for best movie at the Film Festival of Karlovy Vary. The film also landed her a position as scriptwriter and director at the Madstonefilms Company in New York, where she remained for two years. Among Siwe’s other productions are several short films, e.g., “Daydreams” (1997), “Long Live Lennart” (2005), as well as three episodes of the Swedish television series “Orka, orka” (2004). She has directed the film FIREWALL (2006) for television, based on a Henning Mankell detective novel.

Il suo film di fine corso, BIRTHDAYS AND OTHER DISASTERS, vince, tra l’altro, il premio come miglior film al festival di Karlovy Vary. In seguito Lisa lavora per due anni come sceneggiatrice e regista alla Madstonefilms Company di New York. Tra le altre produzioni dell’autrice, numerosi cortometraggi – tra cui DAYDREAMS (1997) e LONG LIVE LENNART (2005) – tre episodi della serie tv svedese ORKA, ORKA (2004), e il film per la televisione FIREWALL (2006), tratto da un thriller di Henning Mankell, edito in Italia da Marsilio con il titolo Muro di Fuoco, e in onda su Sky.

Director’s statement
”The book’s very sad, but also very life-affirming. There’s humour in it that makes it all the more compelling. When the sorrow actually does kick in, its effect is all the more powerful. I really wanted to make sure that the film had all the passion of the book, all its ups and downs. I truly think people want to see something that really gets to them emotionally”.

”Il libro è molto triste, ma è anche un inno alla vita. C’è dell’umorismo, nel libro, che rende tutto più convincente. Quando il dolore si presenta davvero, il suo effetto è molto più potente. Volevo essere sicura che il film avesse tutta la passione del libro, tutti i suoi alti e bassi. Penso davvero che la gente voglia vedere qualcosa capace di coinvolgerla emotivamente”.
