NEW NEIGHBOURS by Andrea Mannino, Sara Burgio, Giacomo Rinaldi (Italy)

GENERATOR +13

Gryphon Award - Best Film

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT by Gurinder Chadha (United Kingdom)

Special Award - TOYOTA AWARD

A COLONY by Geneviève Dulude-De Celles (Canada)
Reasons: The reason for the choice of this film lies in the consistency with the message that Toyota wants to spread: through the global campaign 'Start Your Impossible' Toyota intends to promote the value of an all- inclusive society, in which diversity represents a richness and an opportunity. Every limit can be overcome through determination, passion and courage. In the film, the protagonist stands her ground, despite the difficulties and mistrust of the world around her, showing that nothing is impossible. Toyota is honored to assign this award to a film that withholds important messages for the youngest, who stand for a future of pure renewable energy for the company.

Special Award - THE CGS AWARD (Social-cultural Cineclubs for Young People) - “Percorsi Creativi 2019”

MY NAME IS SARA by Steven Oritt (USA/Poland)
Reasons: Because the film focuses on the anti-Jewish racial persecutions of the Second World War setting the story in an unusual Ukrainian context, realistically represented by a country village inhabited by common people.
Sara's intense gaze, highlighted by some important subjective framings, leads the viewer into the drama of the difficult survival in a hostile world, which compels Sara to change her identity and hide her religious creed, making her unavoidably distrustful of all the forces involved.
The persistent use of cool colors, the interchange of long shots and close-ups, the use of a significant musical score create an engaging narration.

GIANT LITTLE ONES by Keith Behrman (Canada)

Special Award - ALUMINIUM GRYPHON - CIAL (Aluminium Wrapping Consortium) AWARD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

TOO LATE TO DIE YOUNG by Dominga Sotomayor (Chile/Brazil/Qatar)
Reasons: The CIAL Environment award goes to the film "TOO LATE TO DIE YOUNG", especially for the story, chosen by the director, that though referring to a distant historical time in her memory, turns out to be highly topical. In a country like Chile, which is experiencing a profound social, political and cultural transformation, nature becomes the scenario where the three young protagonists will find their way back to face the future. For Luca, Clara and Sofia it is a period of change and of reckoning. In a barren land, far from their parents, they experience their first loves and fears, typical of their age, far from the city and completely immersed in nature.
