WHEN MARNIE WAS THERE

Category: Edition 2015

Synopsis
Anna is a twelve-year-old, orphan, timid and loner girl, who lives in Sapporo, in Japan, with her foster parents. One day at school she is struck by a severe asthma attack, so her foster parents decide to send her to spend the summer with two their relatives, Setsu and Kiyomasa Oiwa, in Kushiro, a seaside town, where the air is clearer. There Anna, wandering alone, sees an apparently abandoned mansion, and meets Marnie, a beautiful and mysterious girl with long and blonde hair who lives in the mansion. Anna and Marnie immediately become best but secret friends. Meanwhile, Anna sees that the mansion seems to be uninhabited at daytime but comes to life again at night, and can’t shake the feeling that Marnie and the mansion are strangely familiar.
