Synopsis
Mike, 10 year-old, a boy who has been hospitalized for months and is cured from a severe illness, gets released from hospital. But his mother, Natasja, doesn’t come to take him home and can’t be reached anywhere. The Youth Care Bureau decides he can’t go home for while, not until they determined whether his mother can take care of him. Mike disagrees: he knows his mother sometimes drinks too much and that she neglects him when she does, but he can take care of himself. Despite all his efforts, the juvenile judge decides Mike has to go to a foster family. With help from his new roommate Vincent, Mike thinks up a way to cross the Youth Care’s plans. But instead of being allowed to go home, he is sent off to a Children’s Home. The day before Christmas Mike flees and gets home, but Natasja is not there. Will Mike manage to celebrate Christmas at home with his mom?
Sinossi
Mike, 10 anni, ricoverato per mesi e guarito da una grave malattia, viene dimesso dall’ospedale, ma sua madre, Natasja, non si presenta per riportarlo a casa ed è introvabile. Il Dipartimento per la giustizia minorile decide che Mike non tornerà a casa finché non si sarà stabilito se la madre sia in grado di prendersi cura di lui. Mike non è d’accordo: sa che talvolta sua madre beve tanto e che, quando accade, lo trascura, ma pensa di poter badare a se stesso. Nonostante gli sforzi di Mike, il giudice minorile delibera che il ragazzo sia assegnato a una famiglia affidataria. Con l’aiuto di Vincent, il suo nuovo compagno di stanza, Mike escogita un piano per aggirare la decisione del tribunale. Ma, invece di ottenere il permesso di tornare dalla madre, viene mandato in un istituto. La vigilia di Natale, il ragazzo scappa e arriva a casa, ma Natasja non è lì. Riuscirà Mike a festeggiare il Natale con la sua mamma?
