Synopsis
Steve, an American physician, arrives at Pohang airport with his 13-years-old daughter Barbie. Mang-tak welcomes and takes them to his brother Mang-woo’s house, where Soon-young, 13 years-old, takes care of her younger sister, Soon-ja, who is always ill, and Mang-woo, her mentally retarded father. Steve has come to Pohang to adopt Soon-young into his family, but Soon-young can’t accept the fact that a stranger is now going to be her father. All this is Mang-tak’s scheme to make a huge sum of money by sending Soon-young to the USA. Indeed, Steve is adopting Soon-young for a heart transplant to save his younger daughter who has a heart disease. Mang-tak is selling his niece for money knowing that she’s going to die. Unaware of the truth, Soon-ja believes in the American dream and uses every trick to be adopted instead of Soon-young. Meanwhile, Barbie and Soon-young share a true friendship.

Sinossi
Steve, medico americano, arriva all’aeroporto di Pohang con la figlia Barbie, tredici anni. Mang-tak li accoglie e li porta a casa del fratello Mang-woo, la cui figlia Soon-young, anche lei tredicenne, si prende cura della sorella minore Soon-ja, sempre malata, e del padre, mentalmente disturbato. Steve è giunto a Pohang per adottare Soon-young, ma la ragazza non può accettare che un estraneo diventi suo padre. Tutto ciò è il risultato di un piano di Mang-tak, che vuole arricchirsi spedendo Soon-young in America. In realtà, Steve vuole usare Soon-young per un trapianto di cuore, al fine di salvare l’altra sua figlia più piccola, affetta da una malattia cardiaca: Mang-tak sta vendendo la nipote sapendo di destinarla alla morte. Ignara della verità, Soon-ja, che sogna di andare in America, cerca di prendere il posto della sorella. Intanto, tra Barbie e Soon-young nasce l’amicizia.
