Andreas Öhman
Born 1985. He saw Paul Thomas Anderson’s MAGNOLIA (1999) and decided that film was what he was going to do. He directed a number of short films, such as BLANDBAND #307 (2007) and MITT LIV SOM TRAILER (2009). His first feature film, SIMPLE SIMON, was Sweden’s official entry at the 2010 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

Ha diretto diversi cortometraggi, tra cui BLANDBAND #307 (2007) e MITT LIV SOM TRAILER (2009). SIMPLE SIMON, il suo primo lungometraggio, è stato scelto come rappresentante della Svezia alle nomination per l’Oscar 2010 al miglior film straniero.

Director’s statement
In discovering the fascinating and wonderful world of Asperger’s, I felt this was the kind of character I wanted to see on the big screen. Bringing Simon and his universe to life gave us an opportunity to combine an extremely visual world with a very different type of character – someone comic and simple, yet very complex. I wanted this film to be about Simon. Not about the brother taking care of him. Not about the parents who can’t handle him. I simply wanted the film to be about Simon; giving us a chance to see the world from his perspective. This film has not only challenged me in every way of making a film, but also taught me a lot about myself and about other people. I believe there are some tendencies of Asperger’s deep inside all of us that we should be very careful about. They make us special. Just like Simon. I hope you like him, just like I do.

"Scoprendo il mondo affascinante e straordinario della sindrome di Asperger, sentivo che questo era il tipo di personaggio che volevo vedere sul grande schermo. Simon e il suo mondo ci hanno dato la possibilità di legare un mondo dominato dalla visualità con un tipo di personaggio decisamente diverso, comico e semplice, ma allo stesso tempo molto complesso. Volevo che fosse un film su Simon. Non sul fratello che si prende cura di lui. Non sui genitori che non riescono ad avere un rapporto con lui. Volevo semplicemente che fosse un film su Simon, e che ci desse l’occasione di vedere il mondo dalla sua prospettiva. Questo film non solo è stato una sfida personale, ma ha anche insegnato tanto a me e alle persone che hanno lavorato con me. Credo che nel profondo di tutti noi ci siano degli aspetti della sindrome di Asperger che dovremmo considerare con attenzione, e che ci rendono speciali. Proprio come Simon. Spero che Simon vi piaccia come piace a me".
