Christian Laurence
Born 1975, Montréal. In 1999 he founded KINO’00, an international community of microcinema artists, now established in over 80 cities throughout the world. He directed several short films: THE NAUTICAL EDUCATION (2006), L’ASTRONAUTE (2007) CAPORAL CREVETTE (2008), BARCELONA (2008). In addition he edited LA MÉTHODE MORIN (dir. Philippe Falardeau) and NOS VIES PRIVÉES (dir. Denis Côté). AURÉLIE LAFLAMME’S DIARY is his first feature film.

Ha diretto diversi cortometraggi: THE NAUTICAL EDUCATION (2006), L’ASTRONAUTE (2007) CAPORAL CREVETTE (2008), BARCELONA (2008). È stato montatore per Philippe Falardeau (LA MÉTHODE MORIN) e per Denis Côté (NOS VIES PRIVÉES). IL DIARIO DI AURÉLIE LAFLAMME è il suo primo lungometraggio da regista.

Director’s statement
“Adapting a work like AURÉLIE LAFLAMME’S DIARY is a true gift for a filmmaker. When embarking on a first feature film adventure what more can one ask for than to have a creation which is both funny and sensitive, already blessed with a loyal audience, and to have a chance to collaborate with an exceptional author, distinguished both in her writing and in her human qualities? At a time when young people are increasingly drawn to pre-formatted film products, I was attracted by the challenge of providing a work that would be fun and entertaining, while addressing the real issues of teenagers daily lives: the need for belonging, relationships with parents and teachers, friendships, first love, etc…Having been raised in the tradition of quality family films such as the famous Québec collection of films CONTES POUR TOUS by Rock Demers and growing up dreaming of building a fort in my backyard as big as the one in La Guerre des Tuques (THE DOG WHO STOPPED THE WAR, Giffoni 1984, section dedicated to Rock Demers – editor’s note), working on this film was nothing more than a childhood dream come true!”.

“Adattare un'opera come IL DIARIO DI AURÉLIE LAFLAMME è un vero dono per un regista. Quando ci si imbarca nell’avventura del primo lungometraggio, cosa si può chiedere di più che avere un'opera divertente e sensibile, già benedetta dal favore di un pubblico fedele, e la possibilità di collaborare con un autrice eccezionale, che si distingue sia per la sua scrittura che per le sue qualità umane? In un periodo in cui i giovani sono sempre più attratti da prodotti cinematografici preformati, mi ha stimolato la sfida di offrire loro un film capace di intrattenere e divertire, pur affrontando i problemi reali della vita quotidiana dei ragazzi: il bisogno di appartenenza, i rapporti con genitori e gli insegnanti, le amicizie, il primo amore, eccetera. Per me che sono cresciuto guardando buoni film per la famiglia - come quelli della famosa collezione CONTES POUR TOUS prodotti in Québec da Rock Demers - e sognando di costruire una fortezza nel mio giardino grande quanto quella di LA GUERRE DES TUQUES (IL CANE CHE FERMATO LA GUERRA, Giffoni 1984, sezione dedicata al Rock Demers – n.d.r.), lavorare a questo film è un sogno che si avvera!”.
