Synopsis

After a moped accident a girl of 15 is taken to the hospital. She is the daughter of a surgeon who works in the hospital, Timoteo. While a colleague is operating on his daughter, the father thinks back over his life and throws away his mask of the perfect and self-confident man. Hoping to receive a reply from his daughter who is in a coma, he tells her the story of a passionate extramarital affair he lived years before with a woman, Italia, completely out of his environment.
The yearning novel by Margaret Mazzantini became a painful and moving film thanks to the attentive direction of Castellitto and his wonderful interpretation. The film was selected at the 57th Cannes Film Festival and won two David di Donatello in 2004: best actress (Penelope Cruz) and best actor (Sergio Castellitto). In 2005 the film was awarded with several Silver Ribbons among which the Ribbon for the best screenplay (Margaret Mazzantini and Sergio Castellitto).

Sinossi

Una ragazza di quindici anni ha un grave incidente con il motorino e viene portata in ospedale. La ragazza è figlia di un chirurgo che lavora lì, Timoteo. Mentre un collega la opera, il padre ripercorre la sua vita e getta la maschera di uomo perfetto e sicuro di sé. Nella speranza di avere risposta dalla figlia in coma, le racconta la storia di un suo appassionato amore extraconiugale, di tanti anni prima, per Italia, una donna del tutto lontana dal loro ambiente.
Lo struggente romanzo di Margaret Mazzantini diventa un film emozionante e doloroso grazie all’attenta regia di Castellitto e alla sua intensa interpretazione. Il film viene presentato al 57° Festival di Cannes e vince due David di Donatello nel 2004: migliore attrice (Penelope Cruz) e miglior attore (Sergio Castellitto). Nel 2005 il film riceve vari Nastri d'argento, tra cui quello per la miglior sceneggiatura (Margaret Mazzantini e Sergio Castellitto).
