Charlotte Sachs Bostrup
Born 1963, Denmark. From 1983 to 1987 she trained as an actor. In 1995 she graduated in scriptwriting at the National Film School of Denmark. She debuted as a scriptwriter and director with the short film FRIDA’S FIRST TIME (1996), followed by ON THE ROAD (2000). Her debut as a feature film director came in ANJA & VIKTOR (2001). In 2003 she made CINDER ROCK’N RELLA, with co-director Mikala Lage, and ANJA AFTER VIKTOR, sequel of her first feature film. Her fourth feature film LOST GENERATION (2004) is based on a series of novels by Christian Kampmann. In 2005 she helmed the comedy GIRLS’ TALK. She directed episodes of different TV series, such as NIKOLAJ & JULIE (2002-2003) and NYNNE (2006).

Nata in Danimarca nel 1963, studia recitazione dal 1983 al 1987. Nel 1995 si diploma in sceneggiatura alla National Film School danese. Debutta come sceneggiatrice e regista con il cortometraggio FRIDA’S FIRST TIME (1996), cui segue un altro corto, ON THE ROAD (2000). Esordisce nel lungometraggio con ANJA & VIKTOR (2001). Nel 2003 dirige, insieme a Mikala Lage, CINDER ROCK’N RELLA, e realizza ANJA AFTER VIKTOR, seguito del suo primo film. Nel 2004 firma il suo quarto lungometraggio, LOST GENERATION, basato su una serie di romanzi di Christian Kampmann. Gira poi la commedia GIRLS’ TALK (2005). Ha diretto anche diversi episodi di alcune serie tv, come NIKOLAJ & JULIE (2002-03) e NYNNE (2006).

“Karla lives in a modern family and has to deal with career-obsessed adults, divorce, stepbrothers and what follows all of that. In Renée Toft Simonsen’s successful novel she succeeds in showing this setup with a great love for the entire cast of characters and with a constant humoristic spark. Karla is a strong and energetic girl, who fights for what she believes in. Karla offers a very welcome and healthy alternative to the female role models children are exposed to in recent media. While working on the film we have valued that the story has to be entertaining and at the same time it is paramount to take the children’s problems seriously. It is hard when the adults are always busy, when your parents are divorced and don’t speak and when your dad is an alcoholic. Renée Toft Simonsen’s story balances elegantly between realism, humor, excitement and moving scenes. Because of her unique insight in kids’ minds, the story reaches their emotions and creates an atmosphere that allows both children and adults to identify with the characters, recognizing parts of themselves in them”.
