Synopsis
Esther Blueburger, a 13 year-old, is seeking something ambitious: to defy the chaos of the world and to be herself. All begins when she encounters Sunni, a cool girl who is everything Esther longs to be. With the help of Sunni, Esther goes awol from her ordinary life, busting out of her private school to attend Sunni’s public school as a Swedish exchange student. Esther also leaves behind her malfunctioning family to hang out with Sunni’s single mom Mary. Esther enthusiastically crosses over into a new world in which everything in her life has become reversed. Once bullied, Esther is now in charge. Once the angelic daughter, Esther defiantly shakes up her family. But when one of these two worlds is shattered, she must to reconcile the many contradictions in her life. Somehow, Esther has to manage to simply be herself.
Sinossi
Esther Blueburger, 13 anni, punta a qualcosa di ambizioso: sfidare il caos del mondo ed essere se stessa. Tutto inizia quando incontra Sunni, una ragazza fantastica che rappresenta tutto ciò che Esther vorrebbe essere. Grazie a Sunni, Esther si allontana dalla sua vita ordinaria, fugge dalla sua scuola privata per frequentare clandestinamente la scuola pubblica di Sunni, fingendo di essere una studentessa svedese. Si allontana anche dalla sua malandata famiglia: preferisce stare con Mary, la madre single di Sunni. Si getta con entusiasmo in un mondo nuovo in cui tutto è capovolto. Prima era sottomessa, ora ha il controllo della sua vita. Prima era una figlia perfetta, ora scuote con irriverenza l’ordine della sua famiglia. Ma quando uno di questi mondi va in pezzi, Esther è costretta a risolvere le contraddizioni della sua vita. In qualche modo dovrà riuscire a essere semplicemente se stessa.
