Rod Hardy
Rod Hardy is an award-winning Australian movie and television director. In Australia Hardy has directed over 350 hours of television drama including the famed series NEIGHBORS starring Kylie Minogue and the pilot for the series PUNISHMENT starring Mel Gibson. He moved to Los Angeles in 1992. His first assignment was to direct LIES AND LULLABIES, life story of a pregnant cocaine addict, awarded the Scott Newman Award. Hardy has garnered both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for movies of the week and mini-series. Among his works the mini-series BUFFALO GIRLS (starring Anjelica Huston and Melanie Griffith) and the movie versions of ROBINSON CRUSOE (starring Pierce Brosnan) and 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA (with Patrick Dempsey). Hardy has also directed episodes of X-FILES, JAG, ROBBERY HOMICIDE DIVISION, THE PRACTICE, TOUCHING EVIL, BATTLESTAR GALATICA.

Rod Hardy è un regista australiano pluripremiato per il suo lavoro per il cinema e la TV. In Australia Hardy ha diretto oltre 350 ore di televisione tra cui la serie NEIGHBORS con Kylie Minogue e il pilot della serie PUNISHMENT con Mel Gibson. Nel 1992 si trasferisce a Los Angeles, dove con il suo primo lavoro, il film LIES AND LULLABIES che racconta la storia di una tossicodipendente incinta, viene premiato con il Scott Newman Award. Director’s statement
“I thought it was a magic story. I’ve always been attracted to films about people growing up, and this story has a particular charm about it. [...] We find four boys who had chemistry together but who also had the maturity to understand the work and the hard effort that goes into making a film. [...] There’s a feeling in the orphanage that the Catholic Church is very much overseeing these boys, so we went for very subdued colour. As we progress through the story, the colours get brighter, and when they arrive at the carnival there’s a dancing of lights and the colours are getting richer. By the time we get to the Cove and the boys run freely across the sand, the sea is sparkling and the sky is really blue. The change also progresses the mood of the film”.

“Pensavo fosse una storia magica. Sono sempre stato attratto dai film capaci di raccontare la crescita delle persone, e questa storia lo fa in maniera incantevole. […] Abbiamo trovato quattro ragazzi che insieme creano una chimica particolare, e che hanno la maturità per comprendere il lavoro e lo sforzo necessari alla realizzazione di un film. […] Nell’orfanotrofio c’è la sensazione che la chiesa cattolica eserciti un massiccio controllo sui ragazzi, così abbiamo scelto dei colori tenui. Man mano che si va avanti nella storia, i colori si fanno più accesi, e quando si arriva alla parte del carnevale, c’è una danza di luci, e i colori si fanno sempre più ricchi. Col tempo, arriviamo alla baia, dove i ragazzi corrono liberamente attraverso la spiaggia, il mare è scintillante, e il cielo è davvero blu. Il cambiamento si accompagna agli stati d’animo che dominano nel film”.
