Synopsis
Amir, a rich Afghan boy, and Hassan, a Hazara and son of Amir's father's servant, spend their days in a peaceful Kabul, kite fighting and roaming the streets. Amirs father, Baba, seems to favour Hassan for being more manly, while Amir is sensitive and interested in writing stories. A violent older boy, Assef, blames Amir for socializing with a Hazara, according to Assef an inferior race. He prepares to attack Amir, but Hassan stands up to him, threatening to shoot Assef in the eye with his slingshot. Assef says he will take revenge.
